John McCain and the Dodgers find themselves in the same pickle.

Both ‘’teams’’ have to climb out of a big hole of their own digging.

The Dodgers start their shoveling an hour earlier than the Republican presidential candidate does; the Dodgers game begins at 5 p.m., the final presidential debate between McCain and Barack Obama at 6 p.m.

In the championship series, the Dodgers trail the Phillies 3-1; and in the presidential debates, McCain is behind Barack Obama 2-0. And both have been drawing huge TV audiences. The difference is, if the Dodgers win, they get to play the Phillies again. Even if McCain wins this debate, it’s his last matchup with Obama.

My prediction: a lot of swinging for the fences. Oh, and I expect the Dodgers will try that, too.
