Tommy Lasorda has a memory problem

September 23, 2008 | 11:13 pm

Lasorda

The new "My story" insert during Dodgers games features Tommy Lasorda talking about the time he blew out a candle Reds manager John McNamara lit at a church before a game between the two teams. Lasorda says he gave McNamara a hard time about it, "Hey Mac, it won't work, I blew out the candle," and that the Dodgers beat the Reds, 13-2.

However, a quick check of retrosheet.org shows that the Dodgers never beat the Reds by that score when McNamara was managing the team. So, what's the real story, Tommy?
