Joe Torre did a monumental job for the Yankees

Not only should the Yankees not have fired Joe Torre, they should have given him a bust in Monument Park.

That’s the opinion of New York Times columnist Bill Rhoden, who writes that it was an embarrassment to the Yankees when they didn’t acknowledge Torre or Roger Clemens during Sunday night’s Yankee Stadium closing ceremony.

If they didn’t include Clemens because of drug allegations, Rhoden wonders why Andy Pettite and Jason Giambi were allowed to participate.

What could possibly have been the excuse for excluding even a mention of Torre?
