Raiders ready to fire Lane Kiffin?

September 29, 2008 |  6:39 pm

All seemed normal -- as if there is such a thing in Raiderland -- today when head coach Lane Kiffin did his usual day-after-the-game meeting with the media.

But now ESPN is reporting that owner Raiders owner Al Davis has scheduled one-hour meetings tonight with offensive coordinator Greg Knapp, offensive line coach Tom Cable and veteran coach Paul Hackett, a Raiders consultant.

ESPN reporter John Clayton says an unamed source told him the topic of the meetings was Kiffin's potential firing and who might be the replacement.

The Times' Sam Farmer says that if the Raiders go with an offensive coach, as they routinely do, they might go with darkhorse Tom Rathman, their running backs coach. Knapp is more qualified, but he's probably headed to Seattle next season to join Jim Mora's staff after Mike Holmgren steps down.

Stay tuned...
