Time for a Hollywood spotlight in Westwood?

September 26, 2008 |  2:03 pm

Snoop Dogg takes on a tackling dummy during a visit to a USC workout in 2004.

USC has had its share of red carpet moments at practice, what with such celebrities as Will Ferrell, Snoop Dogg and the like stopping by. But UCLA on Thursday might have taken the first step in ending the Trojans' star power monopoly.

Director and writer Ron Shelton visited Spaulding Field in Westwood to watch the Bruins practice. Shelton and UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel are golfing buddies and close friends.

Neuheisel can pitch one Shelton script ("Play It To The Bone"), but not and another ("Bad Boys II), to his Bruins this week, while Shelton can glean some info for a new script.

Anyone ready for "Bruin Durham"? "I just want to give it my best shot and, good Lord willing, things'll work out." Who said it: Ebby Calvin "Nuke" LaLoosh or Rick "Relentlessly Optimistic" Neuheisel?
