Limo driver's first statement

The tape of driver Adriano DeSouza's testimony was played for jurors beginning at 3:36 p.m. Defense attorney Bradley Brunon in cross-examination had suggested that DeSouza made damning statements about Phil Spector -- including reporting that the musiuc producer had told him "I think I killed somebody" -- to curry favor with police in order to avoid deportation. In response, prosecutor Alan Jackson pointed to his first statements to police after actress Clarkson's death, before the immigration issue came up. Jackson sought permission to play a videotape of the interview in its entireity for jurors Over defense objections, Judge Paul Larry Fidler late this afternoon agreed. "His story was given before there was any possible motivation to 'please' the district attorney," Fidler said.
