Metallica, Run-DMC vying for Rock Hall of Fame

Metallica and Run-DMC top the list of nominees for induction next year into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The others on the short list for induction include Jeff Beck, the Stooges, Little Anthony & the Imperials, Wanda Jackson, Chic, Bobby Womack and War.

The Rock Hall is dealing with the relative dearth of worthy acts newly eligible for membership by leaning heavily on those previously passed over for membership. Metallica and Run-D.M.C. are the only ’80s-vintage nominees being drafted to the institution that requires 25 years to have passed since performers released their first recordings.

All the others have been eligible for years, some since the hall began inducting performers in 1986. Five of the nine nominees, with the announcement of finalists expected in December, will be inducted during a ceremony to be held April 4 in Cleveland, rather than the traditional New York site. For the first time, tickets to the induction event will be available to the public.

Until Jethro Tull is recognized by the Hall, these inductions are meaningless and laughable.

Wow, I didn't know Tull wasn't in yet. WTF?

Tannim

And still not Rush...idiots!

I think that their biggest oversight is in the "Sidemen" category. Nicky Hopkins is the greatest rock-n-roll pianist of all time, should definitely be in there, having played with the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, & the Who, to name just a few (plus he turned down an offer to join Led Zeppelin). Its a no-brainer.

The Small Faces are a huge oversight as well...I'm glad that the Ventures finally made it in last year, I'm pulling for the Stooges this year. Still, its hard to take the "Rock Hall" seriously when they have such glaring omissions.

Don Van Vliet again

Looking over this year's nominees closer, its mind-boggling that Rush, Tull, SRV,Deep Purple, Kiss, Alice Cooper, and others aren't even nominated.

I love the music of Wanda Jackson, but she was waaaaay more country than rock, and is already in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, where she belongs. Little Anthony and the Imperials were practically a one-hit wonder, and Chic was a disco band, for cryin' out loud. These nominations are downright silly when you start thinking about what bands AREN'T in the RHOF.

Jeff Beck merits induction. He's the greatest living guitarist whose revered by Les Paul, Clapton, Page, Gilmour, May, Vai, Satriani, Iommi, Scholz and Slash.

If the R&R HOF doesn't have room for the Stooges, then they really don't know what Rock And Roll is all about!
