Monday is the new Friday
This is why we love Los Angeles. There are some nice "secret" shows tonight around town, and most of them are free.
The toughest of the tickets to snag this evening? A Yahoo Music-sponsored Pretenders show in Century City that takes place around 7 p.m. (that’s all we can divulge in terms of location, and anyway, it is RSVP only with guest list spots long gone, we presume). Here is a hint: the show is not at a bar.
Other options for tonight: Spaceland has the Strokes' drummer, Fabrizio Moretti with Devendra Banhart under the name Megapuss. The band takes the stage around 10 p.m. As always at Spaceland on Mondays, there is no cover charge.
Vanguard is hosting Belgian duo 2 Many DJs (better known as Soulwax) at a special free show at Hollywood's Vanguard tonight as part of Scion's "house party" series. RSVP here by 8 p.m. if you want to go, and be sure to get there early (RSVP does not guarantee admission). DJs begin around 10 p.m.
Finally, Cinespace might just have the best under-the-radar show of the evening. Paris (via Bordeaux) DJs Bobmo and Jean-Nippon will spin tonight as part of Paris-based Institube’s tour of North America.

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference Monday is the new Friday:
i was there, it was great - except for a thankfully brief, totally inane q&a that interrupted the set halfway through - and i didn't even have to use my frayed music biz connections. last week, amoeba l.a (the center of my music world...) sent out an email to folks on its mailing list, asking if anyone wanted to see the pretenders. three hours after i got it, i emailed back saying yeah. they sent another email saying "ok.' it was that simple.
