Aerosmith’s Tyler went to rehab for pain meds
Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler now says that his recent stint in rehab was to help him through a developing addiction to pain and sleep medications he was taking following recent foot surgery.
"I just put the brakes on and checked into detox and just pulled the plug on all of it," Tyler told the Associated Press while promoting the new Guitar Hero 3: Aerosmith edition dedicated to his band's music.
In May, Tyler announced that he had checked into a rehab facility following foot surgery earlier this year, but didn't say whether it was for physical rehabilitation of the foot or for other reasons.
"To have your feet done, to have your leg done, you have to be on narcotics," AP quoted Tyler as saying. "You have to be on sleep aids at night. I don't know about Joe [Perry], but I was off and running and I didn't like the me that was me."
In 1986, Tyler declared himself sober and clean of drugs and alcohol, which he had abused through much of the 1970s and into the '80s.
