Don Cornelius’ ‘Soul Train’ caught Beyonce destined for fame

Seemingly everyone hopped aboard the late Don Cornelius’ ‘Soul Train’ — even a pre-diva Beyoncé.

Cornelius, the impresario reported dead early Wednesday at age 75 in an apparent suicide, created and was the original host for the syndicated music-and-dance extravaganza, which became a cultural touchstone for millions of boomers. Guests during the show’s 35-year run included Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Al Green and many more.

Among them was Beyoncé, who in the clip below appears with her group Destiny’s Child sometime around the 1999 release of their disc ‘The Writing’s On the Wall.’ Cornelius by then had given up hosting duties, but still had total control of the show. ‘I’m Beyoncé, and I’m a Virgo,’ the future singer of ‘Single Ladies’ announced.
