Jamie’s American Road Trip: The British chef’s tour of American foods begins in Los Angeles on the season premiere of this culinary documentary series (7 and 10 p.m. BBC America).

The Biggest Loser: The contestants arrive in pairs and then are split up into two competing teams in the season premiere of the unscripted weight loss series (8 p.m. NBC).

Rock Stars: The crew faces its biggest challenge yet when it has to demolish an entire section of a mountain along a highway in this new episode (8 and 11 p.m. National Geographic).

Work It: In this new-era, new-economy sitcom, a family man (Ben Koldyke) and a ladies man (Amaury Nolasco) masquerade as women to land lucrative jobs as pharmaceutical reps (8:30 p.m. ABC).

Jane by Design: Take a little “The Devil Wears Prada” and throw in a dash of “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead,” and you’ve got this charming new series about a high-school girl who bluffs her way into a job as a personal assistant to a high-powered and intimidating fashion executive. Andie MacDowell and Erica Dasher star (9 and 10 p.m. ABC Family).

Frontline: The new report “Opium Brides” reveals that the war on drugs can have severe collateral damage (10 p.m. KOCE).

SPECIALS

Politics: The Iowa party caucuses will be covered as breaking news by the major networks and in special programs on CNN, Fox News and Fox Business.

Bitter Feast: In this tongue-in-cheek torture tale from 2010, a celebrity chef’s (James LeGros) career is torpedoed by a bad review from a food blogger (Joshua Leonard), and the chef seeks revenge (9:30 p.m. Showtime).

Hockey: The Detroit Red Wings visit the Dallas Stars (5 p.m. NBC Sports Net).

College football: Michigan meets Virginia Tech in the Allstate Sugar Bowl (5:30 p.m. ESPN).
