Alaska: The Last Frontiery
THE NEW SERIES “Alaska: The Last Frontier” follows a family living on a 600-acre homestead in the 49th state, at 10 p.m. on Discovery.


 Natalie Portman is profiled in this new episode (7 p.m. Biography).

Three Inches:
Developed as a possible comedy series, this sci-fi pilot stars Noah Reid as an underachiever who is struck by lightning and gains the ability to move things with his mind. James Marsters and Stephanie Jacobsen also star (9 p.m. Syfy).

NY Ink:
 The unscripted series set in a New York tattoo parlor returns for a new season (9 p.m. TLC).

Austin City Limits:
 This new episode features a 1979 performance by Tom Waits (10 p.m. KVCR).

Beavis and Butt-head:
 The boys get trapped in an elevator in the raunchy animated comedy’s season finale (10 p.m. MTV).

Hook, Line and Sisters:
This new unscripted series profiles a family, with three twentysomething sisters, who make their living deep-sea fishing off the coast of Alaska (10 p.m. TLC).


Happy New Year, Charlie Brown:
Charlie Brown’s teacher assigns “War and Peace” for reading over the Christmas break in this 1986 special (8 p.m. ABC).

HGTV Urban Oasis Giveaway:
 Vern Yip put his stamp on the prize in this year’s home giveaway, an apartment in Chicago with river and lake views, in this new special (8 p.m. HGTV).

Travel Channel Uncut:
More Bloopers and Wrong Turns:  This new special offers a sampling of funny moments from 2011 (8 and 8:30 p.m. Travel).


College football:
Champs Sports Bowl: Florida State vs. Notre Dame (2:30 p.m. ESPN); Valero Alamo Bowl: Baylor vs. Washington (6 p.m. ESPN).

College basketball:
