Layover

SUNDAY

Get well, Adele. The soulful British singer, recuperating from successful vocal-cord surgery, is nominated for several of those pointy glass trophies, including artist of the year, at the “2011 American Music Awards.” Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry are among the slated performers. (ABC, 8 p.m.)

From his early days in stand-up to his 1977 Oscar winner “Annie Hall” to his recent hit “Midnight in Paris,” the writer-director discusses his storied career in the two-part “Woody Allen: American Masters.” (KOCE,9 p.m.; concludes Mon., 9 p.m.)

MONDAY

It’s not the destination, it’s the journey — but then there’s “The Layover.” The intrepid Anthony Bourdain (above) of “No Reservations” fame demonstrates just what can be done in the downtime between arrivals and departures in this new travelogue. (Travel,9 p.m.)

TUESDAY

This land was their land — until they were shunted onto reservations as the United States expanded. Now modern-day Native Americans who’ve left “the rez” for life in the big city tell their tales in the documentary “Looking Toward Home.” (KCET, 10 p.m.)

WEDNESDAY

Video did not, in fact, kill the radio star, as evidenced by the galaxy of pop, rock and country music performers — Black-Eyed Peas, Coldplay, etc. — featured at September’s "I Heart Radio" festival in Las Vegas and captured in this new special. (VH1, 10 p.m.)

THURSDAY

She famously wore a dress made of meat to the 2010 VMAs, so if dance-pop diva Lady Gaga isn’t decked out in drumstick earrings, sweet-potato stilettos or some such in her special “A Very Gaga Thanksgiving,” we’ll be sorely disappointed, maybe enough to switch to country crooner Vince Gill sharing the stage with Police-man Sting on “CMT Crossroads.” (ABC, 9:30 p.m.; CMT, 10 p.m.)

FRIDAY

More music: Plácido Domingo portrays poet Pablo Neruda in a new special “Great Performances Il Postino From LA Opera.”  (KOCE, 9 p.m.)

SATURDAY

Despite an Oscar nom for “Schindler’s List” and a spot in the “Star Wars” saga, Liam Neeson (below) remains “Unknown.” Or rather, his character is when he’s the victim of some major-league identity theft in this 2010 thriller set in Berlin. (HBO, 8 p.m.)
