“Spartacus: Vengeance,” which will feature the debut of Liam McIntyre as the gladiator hero, will premiere on Starz on Jan. 27.

McIntyre (“The Pacific”) was enlisted this year to fill the title role of Spartacus after original star Andy Whitfield left the Starz period drama because of his ongoing battle with cancer. Whitfield died in September.

This summer at Comic-Con, McIntyre said of taking on the role: “It’s an absolute mind-bending journey so far. It’s a great privilege. A great honor … a great responsibility ... It’s hard. You kind of wish you didn’t have the opportunity. The best thing I can do is bust my [butt] … and honor the legacy.”

The second season starts a few weeks after the brutal massacre seen in the season ender of “Spartacus: Blood and Sand.”
