This week’s TV Movies

SUNDAY

Ready for their close-ups: Emmy winners Alec Baldwin, Alan Alda and Julianna Margulies are among the television stars discussing the medium’s decades-long role in shaping our culture in the four-part series “America in Primetime.” (KOCE, 8 p.m.)

He’s a persnickety, pretentious, precocious 7-year-old with the voice of Jonah Hill. But he is kind of cute, with his oversize glasses, snazzy little suit and a flower in his lapel. He’s “Allen Gregory,” star of this animated sitcom. (Fox, 8:30 p.m.)

MONDAY

Trick or treat or…? You’re gonna need a super-sized sack of candy for “Ghost Hunters Halloween Live,” a six-hour special in which investigators from the spook-seeking series go traipsing around a purportedly haunted Pennsylvania insane asylum. (Syfy, 7 p.m.)

TUESDAY

Are you there, “Biography,” it’s Chelsea Handler. The dirt-dishing comedienne, sometime actress, best-selling author and talk-show hostess-with-the mostest — of E!’s “Chelsea Lately” — is profiled in this installment. (Biography, 7, 8 and 11 p.m.)

WEDNESDAY

“The Fabric of the Cosmos” — it’s not cotton, or heaven forefend, polyester. What it is is a new four-part series on “Nova” in which author-physicist Brian Greene explores time, space, quantum mechanics and the possibility of alternate universes (KOCE, 9 p.m.)

THURSDAY

Don’t get us wrong: Writing these TV highlights is a pretty good gig. But lingerie-catalog photographer, Hollywood stuntwoman, or dealer of luxury automobiles? Those are just some of the “Best Jobs Ever” surveyed in this special. (CNBC, 6, 7, 9 and 10 p.m.)

FRIDAY

To quote Mark Twain, “A gentleman is a man who knows how to play the banjo and doesn’t.” That said, wild and crazy guy Steve Martin (above) shares his love for the much-maligned musical instrument in the special “Give Me the Banjo.” (KOCE, 9 p.m.)

SATURDAY

Women on the verge: Rose McGowan is “The Pastor’s Wife” in this made-for-cable docu-thriller, and Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly cohabitate in the 2010 “Single White Female” knockoff “The Roommate.” (Lifetime, 8 p.m.; Starz, 9 p.m.)
