The Vampire Diaries: As Elena's birthday arrives, Caroline (Candice Accola) is busy planning a party, but Elena (Nina Dobrev) is preoccupied with finding some clue to Stefan's (Paul Wesley) whereabouts in the season premiere (8 p.m. KTLA).

Wipeout: The season finale of the energetic game show (8 p.m. ABC).

The Secret Circle: A teenager (Britt Robertson) moves to a mysterious small town to live with her grandmother after her mother dies in this new series (9 p.m. KTLA).

Angels Among Us: This new series recounts stories of men and women who believe they are alive today because of divine intervention (9 p.m. CMT).

Beyond Scared Straight: The season finale of the unscripted series follows four teens on a trip to the San Bernardino County jail, where one of them threatens a deputy and another spits on an inmate. Kids today, what are you gonna do? (10 p.m. A&E)

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The raunchy comedy returns for a new season (10 p.m. FX).

Archer: Archer is finally tracked down in the South Pacific by adventurer Rip Riley in the season premiere of the animated series (10:32 p.m. FX).

MOVIES

The Shining: Jack Nicholson delivers a terrifying performance as a recovering alcoholic who accepts a job as the winter caretaker of a deceptively serene mountain hotel in director Stanley Kubrick's 1989 thriller (9 p.m. BBC America).

SPORTS

Baseball: The Pittsburgh Pirates visit the Dodgers (7 p.m. FS Prime).
