A Gifted Man: Jonathan Demme directs the heartfelt pilot of this drama about a neurosurgeon (Patrick Wilson) being visited by the spirit of his recently deceased ex-wife (8 p.m. CBS).

Nikita: As a new season opens, Nikita and Michael (Maggie Q, Shane West) plot to take down Division and Oversight, even if it means using the contents of the black box (8 p.m. KTLA).

Kitchen Nightmares: As the hit reality show’s fourth season opens, chef Gordon Ramsay travels to New Jersey to help out a struggling family restaurant (8 p.m. Fox).

CSI: NY: The eighth season of this procedural drama finds Mac (Gary Sinise) and his team remembering moments from Sept. 11, 2001 (9 p.m. CBS).

Dateline NBC: The venerable newsmagazine show returns for its 20th season (9 p.m. NBC).

Supernatural: Picking up where last season left off, the season premiere opens season with Castiel (Misha Collins) warning Sam, Dean and Bobby (Jared Padelecki, Jensen Ackles, Jim Beaver) not to interfere in his business(9 p.m. KTLA).

Fringe: Season 4 of the head-spinning cult hit opens one week after Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) was wiped out of existence after saving the day (9 p.m. Fox).

Great Performances: In the performance documentary “Plácido Domingo: My Favorite Roles,” the legendary tenor looks back and reflects on his favorite roles in opera houses around the world (9 p.m. KOCE).

Ghost Adventures: The paranormal investigators return for a new season (9 p.m. Travel).

Blue Bloods: Frank (Tom Selleck) is on the spot when one of the mayor-elect’s supporters is found dead and the mayor wants him to present it to the public as a random act of violence in the season premiere (10 p.m. CBS).
