KOCE-TV, which became the primary PBS outlet in the L.A. area this year when KCET went independent, is broadening its lineup of children’s fare, expanding its weekday morning programming by 90 minutes and adding a children’s block to weekend mornings for the first time.

Starting Aug. 8 at 6:30 a.m., the station, which calls itself PBS SoCal, will air “Electric Company,” “Martha Speaks” and “Wild Kratts” to its weekday schedule, leading in to the PBS Kids block that already airs from 8 to 10 a.m., featuring “Curious George,” “The Cat in the Hat,” “Super Why!” and “Dinosaur Train.” And those latter four programs will now also be seen Saturdays and Sundays from 6 to 8 a.m.

Jamie Annunzio, the station’s director of education, described the move as part of “our commitment to increase and maintain quality and educational children’s content.”
