About (Late) Last Night: Jimmy Fallon and Blake Shelton like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain [Video]
Maybe it's just the mid-summer heat, but for whatever reason the mood on last night's late-night programming was distinctly boisterous. On "The Daily Show," Jerry Seinfeld got (literally) slap-happy with Jon Stewart in a vain attempt to keep him from making jokes about Michele Bachmann's husband. Elsewhere, Craig Ferguson gave Rose Byrne a lap dance on Jay Leno's couch.
But easily my favorite moment of the night was on (Emmy-nominated!) "Late Night," where country music star and "The Voice" judge Blake Shelton stopped by for a chat with host Jimmy Fallon. After some pleasant conversation and a few Bud Light Limes, Fallon suddenly burst into song. Not just any song, mind you, but "Escape," better known as "The Pina Colada Song."
"Do you like pina coladas?" he wailed. Shelton looked confused, but Fallon continued. "And getting caught in the rain? Do you like making love at midnight?" he belted out, thrashing his head back and forth.
Shelton took the hint -- and the microphone. "I was tired of my lady, we'd been together too long," he joined in. Singing in unison, Fallon and Shelton wandered over to stage left, where house band the Roots provided back-up. For those unfamiliar with the dramatic third-verse twist in "The Pina Colada song," I won't spoil the fun, but let's just say it's worth watching the entire clip.
Fair warning, though: You'll have the song in your head all day.
