BLOOD AND GUTS: George C. Scott won (but didn't accept) an Oscar for his starring role in the 1970 World War II classic “Patton,” airing at 8 p.m. on AMC. 

SERIES

Hooked: In this new episode, “Carp Invasion,” scientists attempt to find out how Asian carp got to American waters and how to stop them, including underwater electric fences and shooting them in midair (6 p.m. National Geographic). 

Friday Night Lights: Vince (Michael B. Jordan) is caught in the middle of a power struggle between Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and his father (Cress Williams) in this new episode (8 p.m. NBC). 

CSI: NY: John Larroquette guests in this repeat (9 p.m. CBS). 

River Monsters: The Lost Reels: Yet another spinoff of the hit series “River Monsters,” this new series serves up older footage never seen in the United States. The opener follows Wade as he tracks down the arapaima, one of the world's largest freshwater fish, and on a 2005 trip to India in search of the goonch, a man-eating catfish (9 p.m. Animal Planet). 

MOVIES

Run Silent, Run Deep: A submarine commander (Clark Gable) brings his new crew, including a particularly unwilling lieutenant (Burt Lancaster), along on a revenge mission in director Robert Wise's 1958 World War II drama, which kicks off a weekend of war films in observance of Memorial Day (5 p.m. TCM). 

The X-Files: Fight the Future: The big-screen adaptation of the TV hit finds Mulder and Scully (David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson) on anti-terrorism duty (6 and 8:30 p.m. BBC America). 

SPORTS

IndyCar Racing: Indianapolis 500, Qualifying (8 a.m. VS). 

French Open Tennis: Third round (9 a.m. ESPN2). 

Baseball: The Pittsburgh Pirates visit the Chicago Cubs (11 a.m. WGN A); regional coverage (4:30 p.m. MLB); the Angels visit the Minnesota Twins (5 p.m. FSN); the Florida Marlins visit the Dodgers (7 p.m. FS Prime). 

College Softball: NCAA tournament (if necessary). (4 and 8:30 p.m. ESPN2). 

Hockey: NHL playoffs: The Tampa Bay Lightning visits Boston (5 p.m. VS).
