Reality kingpin Mark Burnett has been tapped to produce the Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 18, which will air on Fox thanks to a new deal the TV academy clinched with the major broadcast networks.

Best-known as the producer of CBS’ ‘Survivor,’ Burnett’s latest hit is NBC’s ‘The Voice.’

‘As an Emmy Award winner, I know the excitement of standing on the Emmy stage before your peers and the American public to receive that statue,’ he said in a statement. ‘My mission in producing this year’s Emmys is to provide the absolutely most memorable television experience for the nominees, the winners and the viewing audience.’ Burnett, who has never produced the Emmys before, has also overseen the MTV Movie Awards and the People’s Choice Awards.

Meanwhile, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, which administers the Emmys, announced a new eight-year deal with Fox, ABC, CBS and NBC, which will continue to carry the ceremony in an alternating ‘wheel’ pattern.

Because it’s a nonprofit, the academy has no problem revealing the deal’s terms: the networks will pay a license fee of at least $8.25 million annually, for a guaranteed $66 million over the life of the contract. The proceeds from the broadcast agreement provide major financial support for the academy, which is based in North Hollywood.
