There’s new drama on a TV singing contest -- and this time it’s not coming from ‘American Idol.’ Cheryl Cole has reportedly been dumped as a judge on ‘The X Factor,’ Simon Cowell’s new series coming to Fox this fall.

Through early auditions, Cole has been sitting on the panel of judges with Cowell, Paula Abdul and L.A. Reid.

But according to TMZ, the British singer was scotched because her accent was too thick for American viewers. (The producers didn’t realize this previously?) Also, Cole did not have that special ‘chemistry’ with Abdul. (That one sounds more plausible.) Cole will be replaced by Nicole Scherzinger, who was supposed to co-host the show with Welsh TV presenter Steve Jones, TMZ reported.

Fox representatives did not immediately return emails seeking comment, and a spokesman for ‘X Factor’ said he couldn’t confirm the move and was still trying to get information.

But interesting, isn’t it, that this big drama erupted just minutes before ‘Idol’ -- Cowell’s old stomping ground -- was to go live on the East Coast with its finale?
