Katie Couric makes 'CBS Evening News' departure official

Katie Couric leaving CBS Evening News Katie Couric finally has confirmed what we all suspected: She’s leaving “CBS Evening News.”

Because what would this week be without a Kate in the news? Sorry, Middleton. Your time will come on Friday.

In an interview with People magazine, Couric said: “I have decided to step down from the CBS Evening News.  I'm really proud of the talented team on the CBS Evening News and the award-winning work we've been able to do in the past five years in addition to the reporting I've done for 60 Minutes and CBS Sunday Morning. In making the decision to move on, I know the Evening News will be in great hands, but I am excited about the future."

Yada yada yada. But where will she find herself next? Couric doesn’t really say -- "I am looking at a format that will allow me to engage in more multidimensional storytelling," she said.

Until then, she’s got the royal wedding to cover. See, Middleton!

multidimensional storytelling......you really want to say " lying"!!

Katie, no amount of hair dye can change your staggering ineptitude. But, now that everyone knows your ratings are tanking (again), you can start off fresh by making a formal apology to Sarah Palin and her family, and the viewing public, for being a fawning Liberal hack... Goodbye, girl, and good riddance...

What is CBS News? Who is Katy couric?

she should leave, she is responsible for the show's poor ratings...I don't get it, whose bright idea was it to put this unqualified morning show hostess in this position?....a Walter Cronkite she ain't!!...maybe the Home Shopping Network or QVC could use her to sell muu-muus or fake diamonds!!!

she might be qualified as a kindergarten teacher, no, make that nursery school!!...look at that picture, she looks like a Stepford Wife!!...the most underqualified, overpaid person on the planet!!

I'll draw you a simple analogy:

Corporate news:USA as Pravda:USSR

Katie Couric is a fine courtier but her powdered face will soon be forgotten.

Don't they realize she won the Walter Cronkite award for her Sarah Palin interview? What happened?

American culture is in decline. Our values are lost and forgotten. What once was seen as tabloid now passes for journalism. Hopefully people wake up and fight the oligarchy...otherwise we face a long slide into the abyss.

Another Democrat bobblehead bits the dust, in the face of a viewership who can look up her lies on-line

Katie started off slow (perky personality and disastrous start-up initiative) but has clearly grown over the past three years or more. I now prefer her head and shoulders over her competitors, and will be sorry to see her go. CBS may lose me and I may become an increasingly infrequent viewer of the big three network evening news.

Good riddance! Now hopefully Ms. Perky will leave broadcasting altogether

Thank God this woman has realized that she is in way over her head. My question is when bush was president all the news could cover was How many soilders lost their lifes in the wars. Every night the same old thing the news media kept a constant count, and displayed it as if some trophy. Since Obama has been in office and we are in yet another war, all that has suddenly seemed to not be a good thing

Why when America had terrible things that took place during the Bush amendistratration the news media said it was because of the "BUSH AMENDISTRATION" . Remember Kartrina. Bush's fault. But when the oil spill in the Gulf happened. Guess what it wasn't the Obama admenistration it was BP'S Fault. This news is so one sided. No wonder no one believes them anymore. Their ratings are dropping so fast. They don't realize that all this bad news is finally catching up with them.

C.B.S is a terrible news program. They don't tell the WHOLE TRUTH. Only their side. With programs that they show they won't last much longer anyway. Getting rid of Katie is Not their problem. They just need to tell the whole truth. Where are the days of Walter C. Everybody liked to watch the news then. People could believe it. Not anymore. so sad

Hey i forgot what about the oil prices?During the Bush's amendastration, it was Bush's fault. Now that the oil and gas prices are higher than ever before, Whose fault is that? OBAMA Amendastration? Probably not that will probably be the oil corp.WoW Double standand.

Katie should take Larry King's spot on CNN. Would be a good post for her.
If not she would be a wonderful Late Night Talk Show host. She has been a stand in for Jay Leno, and did a great job, and kept the audience.

This is news? She was terrible on 60 minutes - too soft, smiled at inappropriate times and too often. I remember her first few interviews and I wanted to call and remind her she was supposed to be a journalist, not fawn over her interviewees. How'd she last this long?

Gee, I was going to post something kind of critical of the over-hyped Couric, but then I read so many nasty comments. So I'll add a positive note. As soon as I can think of one.

This is no surprise. I am surprised though that she lasted as long as she did on the Nightly News. I liked Katie Couric when she was on the Today Show and felt the move to news anchor was a mistake. It was. She lacks the perseverance needed as a solo news anchor. It is a shame too that she never got out of the cellar in ratings. I think a talk show on her own is also a mistake. She is a good ensemble person, not solo.
