Is Fergie about to bring her lovely lady lumps to Fox’s ‘The X Factor’?

The singer of Black Eyed Peas hits such as ‘My Humps’ is among the names in the running as a judge for Simon Cowell’s talent competition, which will get its American premiere this fall.

‘All I can tell you is her name was put forward,’ Cowell told reporters in a conference call Thursday. But he cautioned that ‘X Factor’ judging could put a serious crimp in the career of someone as busy as Fergie. ‘It’s not a two-day-a-week show, this,’ he said. Cowell and Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid will take two other seats on the four-judge panel.

Meanwhile, Cowell said that auditions in cities such as Los Angeles and Miami have been ‘going great. ... We started up in L.A., and it was just under 20,000 apparently that turned up.’

But don’t look for Cowell himself at the cattle calls.

‘I don’t really like to see or hear what I’m gonna see in advance,’ he said. ‘The fun of it is when you get surprised. The Susan Boyle clip [from ‘Britain’s Got Talent’] is a classic example. Everybody thinks that I had seen Susan before. I’d never met her in my life. So when she sang for the first time, I was genuinely shocked. And I like that feeling.’
