Two classic ABC soap operas will soon meet their demise: "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" will air their final episodes in September 2011 and January 2012, respectively, leaving only "General Hospital" to survive them. No word yet on whether they'll rise from the dead, like "One Life to Live"'s Elijah Clarke, after being snuffed out.

Since it premiered in 1970, "All My Children" has received more than 30 Emmy Awards and made history by airing daytime TV's first same-sex kiss between two women as well as its first lesbian wedding and the first coming-out story for a transgender character.

The Emmy Award-winning "One Live to Live" has been on the air since 1968 and was among the first in daytime television to cover interracial romance, gang violence and teen pregnancy. The show made national headlines when it introduced a gay teen character (played by Ryan Phillippe) and was later honored by the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).

In place of the two soaps will be two new series, "The Chew," a food show co-hosted by Mario Batali set to premiere in September 2011, and "The Revolution" (working title), a makeover show hosted by Tim Gunn that focuses on "health and lifestyle transformations" that will make its debut in January 2012.

"While we are excited about our new shows and the shift in our business, I can't help but recognize how bittersweet the change is," said Brian Frons, president of daytime for Disney ABC/Television Group, in a statement.

Noting that the two new series were inspired by the success of "The View," Frons said, "We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days. They are telling us there is room for informative, authentic and fun shows that are relatable, offer a wide variety of opinions and focus on 'real life' takeaways."

WHAT????? WHY ONE LIFE TO LIVE????? I LOVE THAT SHOW I work days BUT I record it and watch DAILY did U ever think More women are working now and can't stay home and not everyone can record it times are tough and my ONE LIFE TO LIVE Is one of the only things I like to watch on TV everything I like always gets cancelled NOT HAPPY NOT AT ALL
I like All my children also but ONE LIFE TO LIVE come on KEEP THEM

I even got my Husband watching it now and he asks what is going on in the soap world

WHY KEEP GENERAL HOSPITAL THEY HAVE BEEN GOING DOWN HILL FOR A LONG TIMEI have not watched General Hospital in for ever and can still tell U who is doing who and why so and so is itis Just BORING KEEP OLTL

I have watched this soap since I was little girl I dont think you should take these two soaps off the air. This helps my children understand with some of the storylines that you have about teenagers killing there self etc.it helps them to see that it is another way out. It also shows about love, men, boyfreinds, and how not to let people run game on you. I will be helpless if you take these soaps off the air.We look up to these shows I will be sad and outraged if this happen please give all you have before you take it off.

what are they gonna put on during day now another BORING TALK SHOW I HATE TV they always cancel the good stuff

very bad move, been watching since inception, will miss them greatly, will not watch new shows, will have to rearainge my day time scedule ,.Thanks for the entertainmemt over many years, but I know nothing last forever. I must ask though is this a good sound business move. If it work and the ratings are good, why change it. D.H.

Be prepared for a backlash ABC. Why are you replacing two of daytime television's icons with CRAP? What's that sound I hear? It's the death knell for ABC. R.I.P

I just want to say I have watched All My Children and One Life to Live for over 13 years and I have loved these shows and have watched them everyday. They r my time away from kids and I have alot of bad things to say to ABC about canceling the best day time shows on the air. You will lose ratings cause there are too many people who depend on that show to make their days complete. I hope you will reconsider this cause me and alot of other women out there love these shows. And the story lines are awsome. It keeps me wanting to watch.

DO WE REALLY NEED ANOTHER FOOD SHOW?? I THINK NOT! i have been a amc fan for 30years! i cant believe you people feel this is a good move. i dont watch tv as it is, but i do watch amc and oltl. it is an escape from real life and just easy to watch--THINK THIS OVER, I THINK YOU WILL LOOSE MORE VIEWERS THIS WAY, i know i wont watch another talk show or cooking show, they are useless......

I love One Life To Live. The only 2 programs I copy so I don't miss them is One Life To Live and General Hospital. i will not be watching the other programs. We have enough health programs.

I am very up set with DISENY for canceling these shows. People need to really do more then speack out on a blog there must be something we can do about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe this. I have been watching these shows for 26 yrs. this totally breaks my heart. I hope they change their mind because this is just unacceptable and ridiculous! they are like family to some of us! I am a reality junkie, but i dont know what ill do with out my soaps too!

If the cable stations are showing these programs, what would make ABC think that people are going to start watching these same kind of shows on ABC, in the time slot of their favorite cancelled programs. We are going to be gone in groves, and next ABC will be canceling theirselves right off the TV sets. Dancing with the Stars won't be able to help them either. Greed is what is pushing this, otherwise it makes no sense. Cable is totally different than ABC, and people expect different content from them then they would on a network channel. So they need to take a look at what happened after Port Charles was cancelled. They never found anything to take its place that was half as good as that show was. Even today, there is still garbage in its old time slot.

I have been watching All My Children since it started and hate to see it go. It's the only thing I watch during the day. There's enough food, cooking shows, and talk shows all over TV.This is totally wrong.

BIG MISTAKE!!! I enjoy going home after a long day at work and relax watching my favorite soaps. I believe you should really rethink your ideas about another food show. There are too many of them now that I don't watch. I've watch these soaps since the beginning of the series and I would hope that you read these posts and take into the consideration as to what the public would like.

I can not believe they are cancelling these shows. This is a shame. Maybe they should get everyones opinion instead of a few. I don't like talk shows and if I want to watch cooking shows or decorating shows. I will watch HGTV. Soaps are a place you can escape to and forget your own troubles. They are like a book you don't have to read, just watch. This is a sad day for everyone. It is a shame not everyone knows it.

I guess I will be watching another channel since I will NOT be watching the new shows! I Have been watching the show since the 1970's.

I don't usually voice my opinion but this time I am. I am pi---d. I have been watching these shows for years and now we are replacing them with what, a food show?. Are you nuts? Senior Citizans have so little to look forward to and now you are even taking the little entertainment they have away. Get a clue.

I cannot even fathom how ABC will maintain it's standing among the networks by cancelling such successful shows. ABC soaps have a wide viewing audience. Remember the days when college students would schedule their classes around these soaps? I clearly do, as I was one of them. Additionally, to be putting so many people out of work is a crime these days. It will only further hurt the economy as well as these actors/actresses, not to mention print publications of Soap Opera Digest, ABC Soaps, etc. It will not only directly affect the actors and actresses. It will affect writer, both screen and publication, etc. I suggest you take a second look before finalizing your decision. ABC will, I believe, willl lose its standing among the networks.
