Watch David Letterman tangle with Katie Couric over her future as a newscaster
Katie Couric's future career path is the subject of nearly as much speculation as Charlie Sheen's these days. But David Letterman is urging the CBS anchor to stay at the network where they both work.
On Tuesday's "Late Show," Couric said her contract for "CBS Evening News" — where she has been the anchor for five years — is up in June. She is reportedly mulling options, including a syndicated daily talk show.
"You can't leave the network, can you?" Letterman asked, as Couric looked surprised and then laughed nervously. "I'm figuring out what I wanna do," she replied.
The exchange began to get uncomfortable when Letterman persisted: "Let me tell you something: When you take the anchor chair, that's what you do."
"Really?" Couric said. "Is that a CBS law?"
Letterman chided that network anchor is "not a temp gig."
Show Trackers, what did you think of the exchange? Should Letterman have backed off or was he right to press Couric?

Dave;
You are an amazing intellectual, contender for top read people in the us.
You can't be serious about your comments about gun ownership. Yes there are weapons used as tools to hunt, half the western world can barely except this.
It is true though, an armed sociaty is a free sociaty. Please just ask one of the recent middle eastern rebels.
You and Katie refered to deaths from weapons. Please dont insult the public, you know the drunk driving casualties are the highest of satistics.
Your conversation was an insult tonight!
Seriously after 20 years of watching, I am severely disapointed Dave.
Oh by the way, I am not member of the NRA, just an Alaskan American.

Hey David Letterman, you vastly overrated everything...why don't you give up your late show hosting job to Katie?

Dave, I love you but you did not give Katie a chance to really speak. She even said"I think I will just listen to you" or something like that. I was really disappointed because Katie never got to talk. Too bad.
