Did Paris Hilton say 'I can't stand black guys' in new book? [Updated]

Paris Paris Hilton has a new reality show this summer on Oxygen titled "The World According To Paris" and focusing on her daily whirlwind life. But Hilton sparks controversy, and a new book may turn the heat up.

"Everyone Loves You When You're Dead: Journeys Into Fame and Madness" by pop culture journalist Neil Strauss contains an encounter where Strauss quotes the heiresss as saying, "I can't stand black guys. I would never touch one. It's gross."

Portions of the interview, which Strauss said took place in 1999 when he was partying with Hilton, have been posted on several websites, including Gawker and LA Weekly.

Strauss said he was discussing several subjects with Hilton when she started talking about a guy she had been out with the previous evening.

Pointing to an unnamed actor in "Saving Private Ryan," Hilton was quoted as saying, "We were making out, but then we went somewhere where it was bright and I saw that he was black and made an excuse and left. I can't stand black guys. I would never touch one. It's gross."

When Strauss asked Hilton, "How black does a guy have to be?" he quotes her response, "One percent is enough for me."

Executives for Oxygen, which is owned by NBC-Universal, and representatives for Hilton were not immediately available for comment.

[Updated at 10:45 p.m.] Spokespersons for Paris Hilton said in a statement: "These allegations are absolutely untrue and ridiculous. We have sent these claims to Miss Hilton's lawyers to respond further. It's another example of someone making false claims for financial gain."

I'm an African American male and i'm dealing with discrimin- atory practices in the workforce as we chat but the media has a way of sensationalizing things to sell a story some times. What the really should be doing is the stories on why in my line of work (Sprinklerfitter) that there's only 35 African Americans in a local of 1300 & also why there's only 6 of us working out of that number & not worry about something she may have or not have said & in any event she would'nt know because if she had black she would'nt go back.

Shock just to sell books. Here is another one

good morning first of all ms. hilton doesn't no any better so sometime you just have to forgive her and move on with your life. As an african american man i am you just have to look at the individual and just feel sorry for her. ms. hilton as we know her, that she just love to be out there in the spot light so please people just dont bent down to her level. just forgive her and move on with your lives family. have a nice and bless one.

Actually, three things:

1. Paris needn't worry about touching any black guys/men - none are in a hurry to touch her, either, unless they're looking to be infected.

2. Secondly, her comments are in fact racist, not preferential.

If she were simply stating her preference, she would've said something along the lines of "I don't date / go for black guys. I'm not attracted to them", or, "I don't date black men. They're not my type. I prefer white guys or red heads", etc.

In her case, she said she wouldn't even lower herself to touch an entire group of human beings - not b/c she has a different attraction preference, but b/c she finds them as an entire group gross, or disgusting.

3. America: wake up - this is racism, loud and clear. Recognize it and call it out for what it is.

The reason people are trying to make excuses on this comment board is b/c they feel the same way she does, but they don't want to be labeled as racist. So, they gloss over what she's saying by calling it 'a preference'.

For those of you covering for her racism, who are you fooling? Yourself, maybe?

It must be, b/c anyone reading this online can see right through this as being blatantly racist statement - including those of different ethnicities in the USA and around the world.

If you wonder why many people around the world look down on Americans, racism is actually one of the biggest reasons - hypocritical racism to be more specific, in that America preaches racial equality, but then doesn't put it into practice (and then tries to hide that fact by calling racist views "preferential", or saying that anyone that exposes them is "pulling the race card").

Look, let's call a spade a spade. This isn't the first time (or even the fifth time) Paris Hilton has made racist comments. Heck, there's video of her using the n-word from 2007 (2:52 mark): http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=a356ab54cf

There's never an excuse for racist views. So, if you share hers, realize it and fix it.

This is ridiculous. He probaly never even talked to her.

Why isnt paris allowed to say she doesnt like black guys? There is a thing called preference. If she prefers white guys or asian guys, that is her right.

Who cares what Paris Hilton thinks?

I guess Paris Hilton ain't gonna be a "white trophy wife/girlfriend" of a rich, famous, BIG(you make your own interpretation), and black male athlete?? Ahhhh, the trend of the white female gold-digger flock to rich and famous brothas never ceases to amaze me...Kim Kardashian..oh wait, she's already got the "rich and famous" part down...

I happen to be overly white skin guy (albino /super white) and I always wanted to be black. Life for albinos (extreme whites) is hell. Black girls happen to be more understanding, sensitive and can be very nursing to guys who are too much white, much nicer than the Euro-American chicks who think that we are just "freaks".

That just goes to show how "Ditzy and Dumb" she is... Also how trampy she is. You're making out with someone that you don't know and haven't even seen. And to admit to the world that it took going "somewhere where it was bright" before you even saw his face! Wow! You didn't know if he was a he, dog, woman, black or other you dumb, fake, plastic, ugly, airhead blonde.

John Mayer made the same mistake that Paris made when last year in Playboy he made those really rude and mean comments about Black women and a certain body part of his being a "white supremecist." He was raked over the coals for it and rightfully so. If Paris said those things, then yeah, people can and should get mad at her. There is such a thing as preferences, sure, there is...but why does showing a preference have to include being insulting, dismissive and just plain obnoxious? The LAST thing anyone needs to hear is someone who is only famous for being famous calling them "gross." It's so middle school. The trouble with our celebrity infatuated society is that they seem to think that if Famous person X thinks like that, maybe I should to...and that is how bigotry and bullying spreads. There are many fine and decidedly dateable Black men and women out there. If you don't want to date them, fine, but you don't need to be rude and insulting about it, either. Each to their own.

and do you know what else I find interesting? That it's ok to be dismissive about race or ethnicity, but heaven forbid you say you wouldn't ever date someone of the same sex...then you'll get labeled as homophobic. Seems some 'preferences' are more acceptable than others...

Good for her.

And now the desperate search by Hilton's people begins, hoping to find a photograph that shows her anywhere within 6 feet of a black man, something they can slip to Harvey Levin and Entertainment Weekly.

Hope they have a plan B, 'cause Plan A ain't gonna work out for them. Hotel staff and bouncers won't count as "friends."

It doesn't matter what she said; she's ugly. Sorry; no makeup with change that. And she has the right to her own opinion and tastes.
And that little "worker bee" video? Apparently no amount of money is enough if your self-respect is L-O-W.

Good for her, I can't stand touching guys either.

Why is she still relevant?
I mean honestly, does anyone actually CARE?

I know Black Men that dont like White Women so whats the big deal. Its a free country which means that you can date whom ever you want whether they are White, Black, Yellow, Blue or whatever. Black men are probably lucky that she dont like them because the lady does an awlful lot of sleeping around. I am one Black guy that is not at all offended by this new Paris Hilton revelation.

WOW, Wait until Vivid get's this info. Another X Rated dvd in the making.

They were making out, but then she saw him? I'm guessing for most people seeing comes before making out. Just a guess.
