Michael Vick cancels interview with Oprah [Updated]
Remember that bet Oprah Winfrey made with Piers Morgan about who would score an interview with Michael Vick on their show first? At stake was 200 British pounds (about $300)! And it seemed as if the queen of daytime TV would add the chump change to her fortune — even if she pulled out of the bet via Twitter.
Vick was scheduled to be a guest on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” for an episode that would have aired Feb. 24. But that’s no longer the case.
“Mr. Vick’s representatives called last night to cancel his appearance for personal reasons,” according to a spokesperson for Harpo Productions, which produces the talk show.
It would have been the Philadelphia Eagle quarterback’s first high-profile interview to explain his dog-fighting past, which resulted in a prison sentence.
In a statement, per PhillySportsDaily.com, Vick said: “After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview scheduled for February 22. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.”
[Update 4:00 p.m.: Should Vick reconsider sharing his story, it looks like Morgan is more than willing to take him on. The CNN host wasted no time offering his thoughts on Vick's cancellation via Twitter: "Dear @MikeVick sorry to hear about you cancelling @Oprah. I'm here if you need me, Kind regards Piers."
Such a gentleman.
ShowTrackers, when Vick finally decides to share his story, who should he sit down with?]
