Lisa Ling's 'Our America' is first series renewed on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network

Lisaling OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network just handed Lisa Ling a big vote of confidence, making her documentary series "Our America" the network's first series to earn a pick-up for a second season.

"Our America" has performed very well in the ratings as the 2-month-old OWN -- which took over the former Discovery Health network -- continues to define its brand. The second episode on Tuesday delivered 733,000 total viewers, a 24% surge over the premiere, according to the Nielsen Co.

"Our America" offers a glimpse of hot-button cultural topics, such as transgendered persons, drug abuse and sex offenders.

"I am truly elated that OWN's audience has responded to 'Our America,' and I'm thrilled to get the chance to produce more episodes," Ling said in a statement. "We set out to create shows that don't tell viewers what to think, but rather, to take them along to experience different aspects of this country that we inhabit. It has been a most scintillating journey."

What do you think of "Our America"?

To the above comment: Okay, what are you talking about?

To this article: Whelp, I'm quite happy about this new program. It really is quite nice to know there are more humanitarian programs out there, rather than all the commercialized fluff we deal with, today.

I have myself been a women for 49years, but at the age of 5yr i knew then i was a man traped in a womens body, and i knew i could ever do anything about it. I would never have the money to do it all, plus i do not know how to go about it. the people you show on t.v that can bel out the money to have this done, how about the other people out there like myself that do not have that kind of money?? BELEAVE ME I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THAT DONE TOO ME TO!!!! but money is always the iusse!

This show is amazing. It opens you up to so many new feelings and things that I do not feel are in my life. I am a teacher so it is good to know warning signs or feelings that others may be going through so that I may relate to both parents and students. This is a wonderful show. I am so glad there will be a second season!

I watched the pray the gay away episode and thought it was interesting. I wish Lisa would have told Christian, the confused young gay man, that there is a huge area between drag queen and marrying a woman. Many gay men enjoy being gay and religious/spiritual and who have great families with children. It doesn't have to be a choice between gay clubs/drag and getting married to a woman.

'Pray the Gay Away' was an awesome story! I was married in a heterosexual relationship for 27 yrs with most of those quite unhappy. I wrestled with the feelings I had but never acted on them until I turned 50 and realized the marriage and life I had was not what I wanted. I graciously divorced so that I might pursue my interests and soon thereafter met a beautiful woman. We have been together for 5 lovely years now and we have so much in common it is uncanny. I have been a Christian since my early 20's and did some 'reconciling' of my faith. Guess what? The God I know and love is still the same and I am still His child! There ARE wonderful churches, organizations and groups that support and welcome gay christians. Thank you lisa for bringing this to light.

I enjoy Lisa Ling's presentation of hot topics without glamorizing them and showing a very human element. I watched the episode on faith healers last night and it exceeded my expectations. The show does make you look at the multiple facets of an issue, not just from the right or left. Looking forward to seeing more of America through Lisa's lens.
