Modern Marvels: The new episode “American Trucking” follows country star Brad Paisley and his crew of truckers on the road between Little Rock, Ark., and Tulsa, Okla., as they race to his next concert (9 p.m. History).

SPECIALS

A Barbara Walters Special: A Matter of Life and Death: Former President Bill Clinton, Robin Williams, David Letterman, Regis Philbin and Charlie Rose discuss their experiences as heart patients with Walters, who also discusses her own open-heart surgery in this new special (10 p.m. ABC).

MOVIES

The Bridge on the River Kwai: Alec Guinness stars as a British colonel leading fellow prisoners of war in building a railroad bridge for the Japanese, while an American escapee (William Holden) returns to destroy it. Jack Hawkins and Sessue Hayakawa costar in director David Lean’s classic 1957 version of the Pierre Boulle novel (7 p.m. TCM).

Still Bill: Rare live performances highlight this portrait of Bill Withers, the singer-songwriter who walked away from stardom 25 years ago in his 40s, yet whose songs — which include “Lean on Me,” “Lovely Day,” “Just the Two of Us,” “Use Me” and “Ain’t No Sunshine” — remain popular today (8:30 p.m. Showtime).
