About (Late) Last Night: Andy Richter destroys Watson, the Jeopardy supercomputer [Video]

February 17, 2011 |  7:07 am

On Wednesday, Watson, the IBM-engineered supercomputer, handily defeated "Jeopardy" super champs Ken Jennings and Brad Rutter. Jennings was breezy about the results, joking, "I for one welcome our new computer overlords."

Not so for Andy Richter. All this week, "Conan" has put its own spin on this latest man-versus-machine match-up. On Tuesday, "Watson" stopped by the show to see if he could best sidekick Andy Richter at his job -- admittedly, probably an easier thing to do than defeating Ken Jennings. Richter lashed out, beating "Watson" to pieces.

But last night, a new and improved Watson was back to torture Richter once again, showering O'Brien with praise and canned laughter. Richter was not amused. "This is just a machine programmed to suck up to you. Where's the emotion? Where's the passion?"

"I save the passion for your wife, Andy," Watson said. "She likes my hard drive and my RAM."

"You shut up, Watson!"

Things devolved from there, ending with Richter firing at Watson, ending the supercomputer's reign of terror.

Or is it really over? You'll have to watch to find out.
