Thank you, Hurley! 'Lost' numbers pay off as winning Mega Millions numbers

Garcia

Maybe Hurley's not so unlucky after all. During Tuesday night's lotto drawing, more than 26,000 people won $150 each simply by playing the lucky Mega Millions numbers that Hugo "Hurley" Reyes used to win the $114-million jackpot on "Lost." Interestingly, winning the lottery brought Hugo bad luck on the show.

Four of the six numbers selected in the real-life $355-million lottery matched Hurley's picks. The winning Mega Millions numbers were 4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and 42. Hurley's winning numbers were 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42.

Though he reported different figures, "Lost" executive producer Damon Lindelof happily Tweeted about the winnings. "9,078 people played Hurley's numbers in the MegaMillions tonight, each winning $150. #THATSSORAVEN," he wrote.

On "Lost," Hurley's magic numbers were a major recurring theme. They often popped up in the lives of several characters, and toward the end of the series, they were found written inside a cave, with castaways' names corresponding to different numbers: John Locke was 4, Hurley was 8, Sawyer was 15, Sayid was 16, Jack was 23, and Kwon was 42.

Meanwhile, Jorge Garcia, the actor who played Hurley, has been bombarded by reporters. "A tabloid news show just showed up at our FRONT DOOR hoping to get an intvw with Jorge about last night's lotto #s," Tweeted his girlfriend. "Is this really our life?"

We're all looking forward to Hurley becoming the new spokesman/press secretary for the Obama Administration... There seems to be a lot of vacancies there, lately-- a trend that is sure to continue...

Thanks Hurley (Jorge), Damon, JJ and Carlton. My threesome and I used those numbers and won $118....maybe more people used them then previously reported??? LOST lives on!

People don't realize it or even consider it, but it has probably happened that someone got 6 out of 6 numbers in the lotto, and only come away with a quite dissappointing 150 dollars and change.

As for me I just happened to be one of those unfortunate souls that matched 5 of 6 numbers, but instead of half a million, I'm rewarded with a mere pittance.

Have a nice day.

Yeah they won, so did Hurley...... they'll all be dead though in a few months... dude those numbers are bad.

Wow this is awesome! What are the odds of those numbers coming up organically? Anyone know?

We have one of those winning tickets! I thought my fiance was being wasteful by playing the numbers and now here I am eating a $150 crow. lol! 4 8 15 16 23 42!

I wanna win mega millions I want numbers

this is next number 12 22 83 46 4 3 22 LOL send me a check if you win :)

Damon tweeted "9,078" because he was using the numbers from the previous draw, where 9,078 people won the 3+1 award level. However, 26k is also an incorrect number, because you're assuming that *every* person who won that award level played the Lost numbers exactly, when in fact there are thousands of possible number combinations which would have resulted in a 3+1 win. I haven't seen a single story about this event which has acknowledged this fact.

Fact is, at this point, nobody knows how many people played the Lost numbers unless Mega Millions releases that information, which to my knowledge they have not done. It would be possible to run a statistical analysis to find out approximately how many people probably played those numbers, and from the *extremely rough* math that I did (all I did was look at the past draw, see that there were about 1/15 as many people who got the 3+1 as the 2+1, then in the most recent draw it's more like 1/10, and took the difference) it seems on the order of ~8,000, but there is no exact number available.

are we truly THIS desperate to fill column inches? Really?

Jamie is correct... The 9078 number was from the WRONG Mega Millions drawing. That was the results from New Years eve...

And like Jamie said... There's no way to know how many of the 25,000 3+1 tickets actually played the Lost numbers.

I find it hard to believe that if a fat man was stuck on an island for over 4 years he would have lost weight. He ate everything on the island!

Based on the number of people who typically win a match 3+1 prize (around 3,000), it looks to me like 20,000+ people are playing these numbers!

If those numbers hit the jackpot, the winners would have been sharing about $19,000 each... instead of the $190 MILLION the two winners actually got!

Maybe time to change those numbers then :-)
