Kyra Sedgwick closes 'The Closer'
TNT announced Friday that "The Closer" will end next year, at the end of its seventh season.
The network said that the decision to end the series next season was made by actress Kyra Sedgwick, who won an Emmy this year and has been nominated four other times for her portrayal of the brilliant and abrasive LAPD detective Brenda Leigh Johnson.
“I cannot fathom how difficult it will be to say goodbye to the incredible family we’ve created on 'The Closer,'" Sedgwick said in a statement. “I will always be grateful to [series creator] James Duff for his love and friendship, as well as for creating such a rich and complex character who I have loved living with year after year."
"The Closer" premiered in 2005 as an instant hit has remained at the top of the basic cable rankings ever since. It has averaged eight million viewers this year.
The show's last 15-episode season will be filmed next spring.

I'm very sorry to see this happen. Kyra Sedgwick has given us seven good years, and if she choses to move on, why take the show with her? Whether by TNT or the production company, this is a disappointing decision, particularly with Mary McDonnell poised to take over for Brenda. The show would be wonderful with her in the lead. Why not at least give it a chance?

NO, NO,NO! Please, Kyra, reconsider. Monday nights are Kyra nights!
DON'T GO.

This show has been terrific. The writing is funny, interesting, snappy, sometimes even moving. It's humorous and caricatured portrayal of Los Angeles is spot-on. The characters are such characters; it's a pleasure to spend an hour with them every week. The acting is flawless. The comic timing is perfect. Everything about the production is excellent, especially the editing which keeps things interesting and fast-moving without ever getting in the way. Everything about this show is completely professional. This is American TV at its glossy, hilarious, unpretentious best. I love it. I will be very sorry to see it go.

NO!!! I too look forward to the 'Closer' be it new or re-runs.

NO! Please don't go.
This is the worst news ever.

@Gordon, I too am very disappointed to see The Closer go, but I would not watch any future incarnation with Mary McDonnell's character in the lead. Captain Rader (McDonnell) is even more abrasive and annoying than Brenda.
So Sedgwick decided this herself, huh? She must think that the show has run its course, and it probably has. It's on DVD and in syndication, so we can still get our "fix" if we're so inclined.

So sad. It's been a good show and I watch the reruns all the time.
The decision has been made but the fans wish it could be on longer. There aren't enough "good" shows on that's for sure and now another one is biting the dust. Our loss.

I wish you would reconsider This is the best show on TV. I see the show every day, on Mondays and again on Sunday nights. The story line with you and Fritz has not run its course. PLEASE, PLEASE do not cancel the show. All the characters are great.

The Closer is my favorite show on TV. I'm sorry to see it go, but I wish Kyra all of the best...a very fine actress indeed.

I do not want Raydor becoming the next "The Closer". If other fans want her to continue, then by all means TNT do a SPIN OFF with her but do not continue The Closer. This is KYRA's show, not Mary's (don't get me wrong I LOVE Mary). I'd love to see Raydor in her own show, if Mary is willing.
Thank you Kyra, James, and the entire cast/crew for 7 wonderful years of ruling my Monday nights. Mondays will never be the same without you. I wish you all well and good luck in your next endeavor!

I,m with Gordon.... Kyra has NO DOUBT been awesome, however there are so many other great aspects to the show, Im sure it would live on as she (Kyra) decided to move on! WAIT! TNT execs think about this ! NYPD blue lived a very long time!

The Closer IS Kyra Sedgwick, I wouldn't want anyone in her place. If she was replaced I would stop watching it. Even though I love the other characters it just wouldn't be good without her.

This is not good! The Closer is the only adult show that I know of that where the actors/actresses keep their clothes on and use decent language! How can you take that away from us?
I fell in love with the show when I watched the very first episode. What a sad, sad Monday nights will be after the show leaves the air.
Thank you for giving us some wonderful, decent entertainment.

Besides Kyra's wonderful work on this show, there's all the rest of her staff: this show gives the rest of the police officers a lot of credit for their intelligence and diligence in their work. It's not all just Brenda Leigh carrying the load, they all contribute as they would in real life, which makes this show more believable. And I like the relationship between Brenda and her FBI-agent hubby, seems both professional and enduring.
When it's all released on DVD, I'll get to see the early season, since I only learned of the show maybe three seasons ago.

NO,NO,NO,NO,NO. KYRA, PLEASE RECONSIDER. WE LOVE YOU AND THE ROLE YOU PLAY. DON'T LEAVE NO ONE CAN TAKE YOUR PLACE ON THE SHOW.

I shall miss that wonderful accent and "Thank you, thank you very much, from both mother and daughter. A really great show that should stay on. There is only one Kyra, and no one will ever take her place. Too bad the good ones are the ones that are cancelled.

I'm so sorry to see this incredible series end. I love Kyra Sedwick in the role and never missed her show.

A terrific show. I have watched every one since the beginning. Kyra is in the same league as Helen Mirren who portrayed Deputy Inspector Tennyson on the PBS show Prime Suspect for many years. And let's not forget the outstanding supporting cast.
But as the old showbiz adage goes..."Leave em begging for more."

I am so sad to here that next year will be the end of this awesome series. I will miss watching The Closer because I love all the actors in this awesome series. Every week I look forward to watching a new episode. I will miss them all but look forward to seeing them again hopefully in another awesome movie or series.
