Smallville: Civilians bearing a darkness tattoo attack the Green Arrow (Justin Hartley) for being a superhero when he tries to stop a mugging in this new episode (8 p.m. KTLA). 

Holiday Battle on the Block: Three families receive a budget of $5,000 and a 24-hour deadline to make the best-decorated holiday home (8 and 8:30 p.m. HGTV). 

SoCal Connected: This new episode takes viewers along on an undersea mission devoted to rescuing trapped marine animals and Patt Morrison comments on the politics of climate change (8:30 p.m. KCET).

Conspiracy Theory With Jesse Ventura: The ex-governor/former wrestler takes a look at the BP oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and evidence of a plot to depopulate Louisiana (10 p.m. Tru).

Tom Brokaw Presents: Bridging the Divide: This new special documents progress since the beginning of the civil rights movement (7 p.m. USA). 

MOVIES

The Abyss: Unearthly phenomena complicate a deep-sea search for a missing nuclear sub in director James Cameron's visually striking 1989 sci-fi adventure. Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Michael Biehn star (6 p.m. AMC). 

Scrooge: Albert Finney stars in this 1970 musical adaptation of Charles Dickens' “A Christmas Carol” (6:30 p.m. TCM). 

Public Enemies: Depression-era gangster John Dillinger lives again, through Johnny Depp, in writer-director Michael Mann's (“Heat”) drama about the then-fledgling FBI's campaign to establish itself by targeting the top criminals of the time. Christian Bale also stars as federal agent Melvin Purvis, dispatched by J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) to catch Dillinger (8 p.m. HBO). 

SPORTS

Pro basketball: The Lakers visit the Chicago Bulls (5 p.m. KCAL). 

Hockey: The Calgary Flames visit the Ducks (7 p.m. FS Prime).
