‘The Buried Life’: Crashing parades and heading to the big screen?

Crashing parades -- it’s what all the hip kids are doing. In the new episode of “The Buried Life,” which airs Monday at 10 p.m. on MTV, the guys take a cue from “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” and head to Des Moines to crash the Iowa State Fair Parade, where they’ll perform a “terrible” song-and-dance routine. Over in Canada, Jonnie helps an environmental activist orchestrate a protest.
But if you’re hoping to catch the boys singing “Twist and Shout,” you’re in for a rude awakening.
“It’s a surprise,” Ben Nemtin said. “To be totally honest, it was an oldie song, but we had a lot of trouble with getting clearance for it. We kind of had to cut around it in the episode and not sing it all the way. It’s [the Contours 1962 hit] ‘Do You Love Me’ but you can’t really tell.”
That wasn’t the only bump in the road. Their bus broke down en route to Iowa so they had to devise a last-minute plan to keep their bucket list item from going incomplete.
“We put out a call on our Facebook page to round up some fans,” Jonnie Penn said. “It was cool. We have about 300 fans in our routine.”
For those unfamiliar with the show, it focuses on four friends (Ben, Jonnie, Duncan and Dave) as they travel cross-country to complete a list of ‘100 things to do before you die.’ Along the way, they help a stranger achieve one of their dreams.
Though not on their bucket list, the guys wouldn’t mind getting picked up for another season -- and maybe even expanding beyond the small screen.
“We hope to come back,” Penn said. “We’ve also talked about doing a movie as well. One of the big things on our list is going to space and that would be tough thing to edit down into 20 minutes.”
An MTV spokesperson had no comment regarding a possible film.
Not to worry. The show’s two-part, back-to-back episode season finale, which follows the boys as they attempt to make $1 million, airs Nov. 29 on MTV.
