'Glee': Harry Shum Jr. to become a series regular

“Glee's” “Other Asian” is getting his due. Harry Shum Jr., who plays Mike Chang, will be promoted to a series regular next season, a Fox rep for the show confirms.

Harry's trajectory from background player to series regular is similar to that of Heather Morris (Brittany) and Naya Rivera (Santana), who were bumped up to series regulars this season. Since Morris and Rivera have stepped up and gotten some of the best lines this season, we can only hope a promotion means more dialogue and maybe some backstory for the Glee Club's best dancer. And, of course, more dancing like last night's "Make 'Em Laugh" dance-off with Mr. Schuester.

Readers, are you glad to see Harry promoted? What would you like to see happen with Mike Chang? Are rooting for Mike and Tina, or does your heart long for Tina to get back together with Artie?

Mike Chang seems like a series regular already. He is terrific. Maybe we can learn more about his family, brothers, sisters, parents, etc.

Bravo. Great move by Fox. Harry is super talented. And to answer the other question, I would like to see Tina and Artie get back together.

Well it's about time. I can't wait to see more of Mike Chang. Small point, Heather Morris is just as good a dancer....if not a bit better. Anyway, Harry is an awesome talent.

Ugh...Tina and Artie were SUCH a drag. And Mike Chang has been pretty worthless except for his dance skills. I'd like to see less of Tina AND Mike and more of Artie with Brittany. At least they were funny.

Glee is just brilliant television, in the first place. Secondly, it's awesome to see an attractive, sexy, tall asian boy with amazing rhythm on tv for once... not playing a nerd with an international accent.

Bring on more of him... more dancing, more backstory, more lines. It's refreshing to see him in the mix finally.

Not to take away anything from Harry. I'm really happy to see him promoted and he's clearly an amazing dancer.

But I can't really agree with this blogger's assessment that Harry/Mike is the "Glee Club's best dancer."

I think he's one of the best dancers, along with Heather Morris.

I've also read that some cast members have said that Kevin McHale (Artie) is actually the show's best dancer. Of course, with Artie's character being in a wheelchair, we don't get to see much of that talent on camera other than dream sequences. I think we've only seen Artie dance once on the show so far.

I did see some photos of Kevin and Heather dancing on stage at a charity event in Beverly Hills earlier this month. They were both dressed to kill, and looked cute together. It makes me wonder if there's another dream sequence coming up with Artie/Brittany as a couple on the show.
