'Dancing With the Stars': Blogosphere in a tizzy over Bristol Palin's advance to the finals

122653_9952_pre The "Dancing With the Stars" voters have come out in droves to keep Bristol "the Pistol" Palin in the competition. And now the blogosphere is speaking out about the controversial news that the improved, yet still low-scoring teen activist and political daughter beat out the likes of Kurt Warner, Rick Fox, Audrina Patridge and Brandy to make it to the Season 11 finals.

"Let the conspiracy theories begin!" said Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog

"After Tuesday night, it should be plainly obvious to anyone even barely paying attention to the 11th season that ABC and 'Dancing With the Stars' have -- for want of a better phrase -- a 'Bristol problem,'" wrote Verne Gay in Newsday.

Jimmy Kimmel called Brandy the latest victim of "Hurricane Bristol" and suggested "an organized Tea Party voting bloc" was behind Brandy's elimination when the ousted singer and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Perhaps the most violent reaction came from a 67-year-old Wisconsin man, who had a standoff with authorities and was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment when he reportedly shot his television after Bristol Palin's performance, citing that "he didn’t think she was a good dancer."

And of course, there was no shortage of theories posted by commenters themselves. Here's a sampling of the Bristol buzz on the Internet Wednesday morning:

"BRISTOL, REALLY? Please people, vote next week and get real!" exclaimed oc_loladee.

"The ONLY reason Bristol is still there is due to viewers votes. SHE CANNOT DANCE and DEFINITELY doesn't deserve to be in the finals. This season's voting results had nothing to do with talent or skill because if it did Bristol should have been voted off the 1st week! It's a popularity contest that has gone HORRIBLY wrong at other peoples expense," said SB.

"Apparently many Americans prefer mediocrity. Thanks Tea Party!" wrote in Tiki.

Still, others chalk it up to the nature of the game.

"It is no shock that Brisotl is in the Finals... look at Kelly O (famous daughter, not the best dancer... made the finals)... the show is Not Just About Dancing! If it was, Kyle would be gone too (with his poor posture, and scattered footwork at times). It is part dancing, part a journey, part entertainment, and part voting simply for whom you want to win. I vote for Bristol because I like her performances... she's not being political at all," explained Keith.

"Haters. The girl embodies what the show is about. Non dancers learning to dance. I can't stand her mother, but I am completely taken with Bristol, she is real. And that is where her votes are coming from. They are coming from the people that realize that that is what they would look like up there," wrote in Stefanie.

And there are those who believe that Brandy was ousted by her own hand. "brandy's obsession to win was a bit of a turn off. THe other contestants seemed like they were there to have fun. I picked against brandy for that reason alone," said Carlos.

"The ONLY reason Bristol is still there is due to viewers votes"

Ummmmmm ........ no kidding?! Isn't that how this show works? It's the viewers who vite?! If it's all the Tea Party who are voting so what? the people have spoken.

Sure Palin isnt the best dancer but neither is Obama as president but they voted him in anyways.

The Tea Party Strikes Again! All hail the Tea Party!

Nothing new here. republicans have always voted for mediocrity.

I've watched DWTS from the very beginning and they never pick the best dancer. They usually pick the most improved dancer. Brandy you are a wonderful singer/dancer and you have what only a select few will ever have. You have talent that is worth more than you will ever know. You did a great job and you have nothing to feel bad about enjoy your life and I look forward to hearing your next album. Many blessings are coming just wait and see. To Bristol you go out there and do your best girl and know that life is wonderful just enjoy. Many blessing for you also and the rest of the couples. I have enjoyed all of the couples dancing this season and I wished they all could have stayed but it was not up to me. This was the most exciting DWTS ever and there is more to come and I am sure it will be quite a show. I will be watching the season finale and you should too. The last 3 couples would want us to enjoy their final performances. I wish all 3 couples the very best of luck. They are all great dancers to me and I think they all deserve the right to go for the ball.

First Congress, then DWTS, then the US Presidency, then...then...dictator of the WHOLE WORLD!!! The Tea Party Rules Forever!

I almost fell off of my bed. I screamed at the tv which I never do. I'm a 70 year old women who has watched all of the dancing shows. Talent was supposed to be a priority. The Palins seem to have our country by the you no what. I'm so upset, if Palin wins this thing I will never watch another show of DWTS. Please remember sponsors We the Older Generation Have Some Of The Money
To Purchase Your Products. Boycot seems right to me. . Im not sure I will watch next week. Probably Not.

This is incredible!! If this is a true contest why aren't we rewarding the most talented?? Do we really want to choose people we feel sorry for or are mediocre? I think we should reconsider how we make decisions? If we are going to a doctor I would hope we look at their credentials... Electing leaders again look at experience and credentials.... So why aren't we voting for the best dancers?? Change the name of the show- Personality and the Stars!

Someone who's barely competent at the task they've been given, but gets non-stop unwavering support from a tenacious group of conservatives because of their famous parent?

Bristol Palin = George W. Bush

What's a matter, the left doesn't like affirmative action all of a sudden? Since when did merit start to matter? Why should her ability to dance affect her opportunity to continue working on the job? My son was denied entrance into several colleges because the school needed to admit students who scored poorly, but were minorities. The left removed merit as a consideration years ago . . . stop whinning!

I agree with everyone here who feels as I do that Bristol's time on DWTS should have ended quite some time ago AND that, even though she has improved substantially since starting, many who left before her had also improved and exceeded her skill level by leaps and bounds!

My initial thought was the same as yours, not to watch another episode of DWTS again this season. BUT you know what that means, it means that there will be more Bristol voters pushing her through with their votes.

If we prefer Jennifer or Kyle to Bristol WE MUST WATCH and WE MUST VOTE for Jennifer or Kyle.

While I like Kyle and enjoy watching him dance, I'm throwing ALL of the votes I'm allowed behind Jennifer Grey as she really has become the best and most skilled dancer since the start of the season. Kyle has improved greatly but at the level of Emmitt or Jason Taylor, or Apollo and Jennifer has.

I don't watch this show but you can't escape all the hype about this season. The most surprising thing to me is that bristol didn't literally follow in her mother's footsteps by quitting halfway through her dance.

I'm upset that Brandy and Maks aren't going to be in the finals next week. People, let's all get together and vote for the real talent!! COME ON NOW!! GET REAL!!!

I was a fan of DWTS but with this last joke it's out of hand. And for a consolation prize you want poor Brandy to dance on Monday. Bristol Palin is not a STAR!!! So why is she on the show anyways. Hell it should have been her mom instead. I encourange everyone to boycott Dancing with the STARS next WEEK show. GET REAL and do the right thing. Rick FOX, Kirk Warner, Adrianna and Brandy all deserves apologies from the network and BRISTOL. SHE know she stinks and if she was honest and a true american she would have done the right thing and delcine the advance to the finals. Knowing she didn't deserve it.

Really? People care about this silly show? Really?

I voted for the first time Monday night, because of the previous weeks' obviously "un"talent-based votes. Still no change!
Is Bristol blind? Is she not humiliated to be yet dancing with her lack of ability? She is creating a mockery of the voting system. Obviously, she's a chip off the old block!!! Guess her mom doesn't realize how naively uninformed she is, either. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

I have one question A.B.C. Why is Bristol Pailin being falsely represented as a star? SHE IS NOT A STAR. She had a baby at 17. Thats it! she should be disqualified. Let's be fair or discontinue the show.

What part of "entertainment" don't these people understand? It's not a dance contest; it's a hybrid of dancing and popularity. Unfortunately, while Brandy was long on dancing, she was short on popularity (her TV show lapsed long ago, and her music has fallen from favor). Maks' attitude probably didn't help either.

Meanwhile, I not only get to be entertained by the music and dancing, the beautiful women and the occasional humor, but also by all the Sarah Palin haters whose heads are exploding because the voting on DWTS demonstrates once again that the conservative Americans are growing in numbers (if indeed they are the ones keeping Bristol in the competition). It's like a reprise of the mid-term elections.

Why do you have judges? Let them decide the winner.

I think Brandy was ousted because of the horrible attitude of Max. If she had had a partner with a better attitude I think she would be in the finals. Him arguing with Cara was the doom of them. I actually feel sorry for Brandy. (but I did vote for Bristol because I think she had made the most improvement)

Liberals can't stand it! Well, we heard enough from you. Such awful people writing such awful things. You should be ashamed of yourselves..
