'Dancing With the Stars': Blogosphere in a tizzy over Bristol Palin's advance to the finals

122653_9952_pre The "Dancing With the Stars" voters have come out in droves to keep Bristol "the Pistol" Palin in the competition. And now the blogosphere is speaking out about the controversial news that the improved, yet still low-scoring teen activist and political daughter beat out the likes of Kurt Warner, Rick Fox, Audrina Patridge and Brandy to make it to the Season 11 finals.

"Let the conspiracy theories begin!" said Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog

"After Tuesday night, it should be plainly obvious to anyone even barely paying attention to the 11th season that ABC and 'Dancing With the Stars' have -- for want of a better phrase -- a 'Bristol problem,'" wrote Verne Gay in Newsday.

Jimmy Kimmel called Brandy the latest victim of "Hurricane Bristol" and suggested "an organized Tea Party voting bloc" was behind Brandy's elimination when the ousted singer and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Perhaps the most violent reaction came from a 67-year-old Wisconsin man, who had a standoff with authorities and was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment when he reportedly shot his television after Bristol Palin's performance, citing that "he didn’t think she was a good dancer."

And of course, there was no shortage of theories posted by commenters themselves. Here's a sampling of the Bristol buzz on the Internet Wednesday morning:

"BRISTOL, REALLY? Please people, vote next week and get real!" exclaimed oc_loladee.

"The ONLY reason Bristol is still there is due to viewers votes. SHE CANNOT DANCE and DEFINITELY doesn't deserve to be in the finals. This season's voting results had nothing to do with talent or skill because if it did Bristol should have been voted off the 1st week! It's a popularity contest that has gone HORRIBLY wrong at other peoples expense," said SB.

"Apparently many Americans prefer mediocrity. Thanks Tea Party!" wrote in Tiki.

Still, others chalk it up to the nature of the game.

"It is no shock that Brisotl is in the Finals... look at Kelly O (famous daughter, not the best dancer... made the finals)... the show is Not Just About Dancing! If it was, Kyle would be gone too (with his poor posture, and scattered footwork at times). It is part dancing, part a journey, part entertainment, and part voting simply for whom you want to win. I vote for Bristol because I like her performances... she's not being political at all," explained Keith.

"Haters. The girl embodies what the show is about. Non dancers learning to dance. I can't stand her mother, but I am completely taken with Bristol, she is real. And that is where her votes are coming from. They are coming from the people that realize that that is what they would look like up there," wrote in Stefanie.

And there are those who believe that Brandy was ousted by her own hand. "brandy's obsession to win was a bit of a turn off. THe other contestants seemed like they were there to have fun. I picked against brandy for that reason alone," said Carlos.

Long time viewers of Dancing with the Stars will tell you the purpose of this show is to choose which STAR is the most talented dancer. Sarah Palin and Bristol say they had never watched the show before; Bristol says that she didn't even read the contract and she didn't know that it was a dancing competition and that she would need to be there after the initial show (when she was paid the $125,000 for appearing.) Once the Palins realized that Bristol's dancing wasn't looking very good, they started contacting their political base--who never even had watched the show before--and told them it was a show about who made the most improvement and because Bristol had no dancing experience and wasn't a star, she needed their votes and this is how they should do the voting. Kind of like the death panels--Sarah can put her spin on anything and her fans don't question the truthfulness. So all these sheep voted week after week--often a lot more time and names than allowed--but they kept Bristol in the competition.

Viewers noticed that Bristol had very little time to practice. She was always jetting off to Alaska or to give a speech or to go watch a band play or to appear with her Mom on the political trail--but she had the votes in the bag with her mom's fans who weren't even watching. Viewers noticed that she was putting on weight and her costumes were designed to hide her big tummy. Viewers wondered why Bristol and her dancing partner were always hugging and kissing and fondling--even when not appearing in the dancing competition or practices. They noticed that Bristol had no energy and only one dancing step--that Mark was doing all the fancy footwork and having to tow Bristol across the floor. Bristol had no personality--she just acted like a diva who didn't need to worry about her performance because she knew the voting was rigged. When it came time to do a lift, poor Mark couldn't lift the beached whale, so they had Bristol stand on a chair to make the lift easier. Rather embarrassing for The Pistol who kept reloading with more food, but the naughtier their dancing choreography became, the more Todd and Sarah appeared to enjoy it. Clearly Bristol did not think she had to work to earn her ratings--Mama Palin had seen to that. Of the nine episodes, Bristol's scores were in the bottom two for seven.

Posters started complaining about the voting but ABC did nothing to correct it. Last week many posters said they had voted for Kyle, but Bristol received credit for them in error. This week, before the elimination, voters posted that they had voted for Brandy, and the votes either didn't go through or they were credited to Bristol. Posters also posted about how flawed the voting process was, and that you could vote all night for Bristol as long as you just made up a different e-mail address for the votes. One poster bragged that he had posted 50,000 dishonest votes for Bristol. Now in America, we would expect for ABC/Dancing with the Stars/their sponsors or even the Palins to comment that this didn't seem fair. We would also think that there would be a re-vote or something to even out the flaws in the voting system. In Palin-gate we are supposed to believe that all is fair in love and war; that this show has nothing to do with dancing ability but really it is just a popularity contest; and above all, we are supposed to be absolutely thrilled that Sarah Palin's daughter is such a popular dancer. Something smells fishy here--how do we go about filing another ethics complaint against this family of media whores.

I tried calling in 3 times for Brandy and Max and could not get through. The voting system is flawed and the selection process is more of a popularity contest. It is so clear that Brandy is a far superior dancer than Bristol and there is no doubt that she should have continued on to the finals.

Many people are now saying that they will not watch DTWS any longer if this type of unfairness continues.

Wait a second, are you folks commenting here in LA? Man I was sure that the only MORONS that would watch this garbage were the overly obese people in their trailers in middle america. Wow, do you people have a life?

I disagree with Stephanie who said that DWTS was a show about "non dancers learning to dance". Part of this statement is true, but the show is 'Dancing with the Stars'. In what way, is Bristol a "star". She should not even be on the show, otherwise, everyone should get a chance to be on. Yes I agree that Bristol has improved and has learned to dance, but there is no way she has improved enough to be in the finals, No Way! She does not have the talent nor the personality. Knowing DWTS has gone political will certainly deter a lot of people from ever watching the show again.

"i think it is terrible how a person like Bristol can win just because of her Mother. What is happening with the World today"...

Funny I could say the samething about Obama...

Obama's ability to grasp the Constitution, simple economics and to govern with a grip on reality is every bit as good as Bristol's dancing is...

Obama was a known leftist radical who never held a job like Bristol was known never to have been a dancer...

So what's the big deal if Bristol wins?

Why do people keep comparing Bristol to Kelly O. Kelly O. is a better dancer and they didn't keep interviewing her family for ratings...

Where's Kanye West when you need him? Too bad he wasn't in the audience! Re: ann eastwood's comment: yea...Bristle has 'given her all' and 'gone all the way' and God really doesn't want Christians to fornicate. Pleassssssse people ....this isn't a political show or a Christian show....it's just a DANCE COMPETITION show all meant in fun!

Palin SUCKS . . . . SUCKS.
Whoever is voting for her is an idiot !
She can't dance . . . and is NOT A STAR !
She may be a "star" on her back but not here!

I hope Bristol Palin goes all the way -- just like she did with Levi Johnston...

I am surprised at people like Carlos who wrote:

"brandy's obsession to win was a bit of a turn off. THe other contestants seemed like they were there to have fun. I picked against brandy for that reason alone,"

You are just as bad as the people who voted for Bristol knowing she was not the best to go into the finals.

This is not a dancing competition any more it is based on popularity.

The judging should be left to the professional judges, the public should not be allowed to vote for these very reasons.

The Joke is that she was let on the show in the first place. Bristol is not a star at all, just like Mike wasn't either. What makes it worse is that she can't dance. Bristol you suck, and should keep your legs closed in the bedroom and on the dance floor! I hope your heel impales you! Go back to Alaska and disappear into the shadow of your ignorant Mom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And posts you posted about Levi, he'll get the last laugh, cause your a slutty joke.

Those who say Brandy could already dance are just as stupid as Bristol. Brandy only sang. Kurt was better than Bristol. Bristol is too stupid to grasp dance steps and her partner keeps making excuses for her. Please notice that he stays away from the fast dances that she can't do. Bristol is an unwed mother who does not have the common sense to just go away! Anyone else would be ashamed to stay in the spotlight. DWTS should NOT have politicians or ANY family members participate from now on. If jug head Donny Osmond can win with low scores the weeks before his win....Bristol can.

Yes Bristol is not a great dancer but she does make the connection with real people in life. Ask yourself if you can dance like half of her or will you be nervous in front of the camera? She is connecting people. So I hope Bristol will win.

You lost me as a viewer. It's not about dancing anymore. what a scam.

Dancing with the Stars is a dance contest the way American Idol is a singing contest. Bristol is where she is for the same reason the cute boys in AI always last longer than their talent indicates they should.

SARAH PAILIN IS GETTING ON MY NERVES BIG TIME!! I just don't get it! Why does she think she has to be in everything. Just the thought that she "could" be president, scares me to kingdom come!

Well when the show started it was about people with no real previous experience, but are in someway a celebrity. But over time, it became about these contestants being very good. Bruno's comment about Michael Bolton was obnoxious and disappointing and showed me exactly what this show has become about. It's for washed up actors/singers/retired sports figures who need a job because the world has forgotten them. How pathetic. HEY - - I NEED A JOB TOO. I am cheering for Bristol because she has come a long way and she represents what the show started out being about. Brandy was not a good singer/actor and to me had an attitude. I am glad she was eliminated. The 67 year old in Wisconsin who shot his tv because Bristol won and Brandy didn't has much bigger issues than DWTS. Hello .......

DWTS is a popularity contest - best dancers have been voted off in the past and will be voted off in the future. If you were only going to judged based on the 3 judges this show would not be a success. I voted for Bristol over Brandy because I didn't like her - she was very whinny and I didn't like her attitude. Who is the better dancer - Brandy by far - who is the better person - definately Bristol.

I'm not watching anymore............the voting system is a joke, a rip-off and most likely a scam just like the voting for Bush back when! Bristol did improve but Brandy was better.........way better..............PERIOD! I have always watched this show for lighthearted entertainment, not so I can get ticked off and curse at the TV because the show is so unfair!

I think Mark & Bristol have come a long way from week 1. Bristol does not have the experience of being in front of an audience like the others, but they come out & she gives it her best. Let's go back to the week Audrina was eliminated: she & Tony danced incredibly; Jennifer misstepped more than once that week and she still got 9's and Audrina got lower judge's scores and eliminated?!? And Kurt and Anna danced without misstep and they only got 8's - consistently. Maybe if the judges votes were a bit more balanced, the public votes would be as well. In my book, Mark and Bristol are winners but I think they should bow out and let Brandy back in - for a different reason than others think. There is NO WAY the judges are going to let Mark & Bristol win - even if they do everything perfectly. They have given them low scores almost from the very beginning. Be fair - there are more dancers than Mark & Bristol and Jennifer & Derek. I think the best thing Mark & Bristol can do is to give Brandy and Maks a chance to win over Jennifer & Derek. Maks was very humbling and gracious in his words after their elimination. Thank you. Best wishes to Lacey and Kyle - you 2 rock!
