'Dancing With the Stars': Blogosphere in a tizzy over Bristol Palin's advance to the finals

122653_9952_pre The "Dancing With the Stars" voters have come out in droves to keep Bristol "the Pistol" Palin in the competition. And now the blogosphere is speaking out about the controversial news that the improved, yet still low-scoring teen activist and political daughter beat out the likes of Kurt Warner, Rick Fox, Audrina Patridge and Brandy to make it to the Season 11 finals.

"Let the conspiracy theories begin!" said Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy blog

"After Tuesday night, it should be plainly obvious to anyone even barely paying attention to the 11th season that ABC and 'Dancing With the Stars' have -- for want of a better phrase -- a 'Bristol problem,'" wrote Verne Gay in Newsday.

Jimmy Kimmel called Brandy the latest victim of "Hurricane Bristol" and suggested "an organized Tea Party voting bloc" was behind Brandy's elimination when the ousted singer and her partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live."

Perhaps the most violent reaction came from a 67-year-old Wisconsin man, who had a standoff with authorities and was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment when he reportedly shot his television after Bristol Palin's performance, citing that "he didn’t think she was a good dancer."

And of course, there was no shortage of theories posted by commenters themselves. Here's a sampling of the Bristol buzz on the Internet Wednesday morning:

"BRISTOL, REALLY? Please people, vote next week and get real!" exclaimed oc_loladee.

"The ONLY reason Bristol is still there is due to viewers votes. SHE CANNOT DANCE and DEFINITELY doesn't deserve to be in the finals. This season's voting results had nothing to do with talent or skill because if it did Bristol should have been voted off the 1st week! It's a popularity contest that has gone HORRIBLY wrong at other peoples expense," said SB.

"Apparently many Americans prefer mediocrity. Thanks Tea Party!" wrote in Tiki.

Still, others chalk it up to the nature of the game.

"It is no shock that Brisotl is in the Finals... look at Kelly O (famous daughter, not the best dancer... made the finals)... the show is Not Just About Dancing! If it was, Kyle would be gone too (with his poor posture, and scattered footwork at times). It is part dancing, part a journey, part entertainment, and part voting simply for whom you want to win. I vote for Bristol because I like her performances... she's not being political at all," explained Keith.

"Haters. The girl embodies what the show is about. Non dancers learning to dance. I can't stand her mother, but I am completely taken with Bristol, she is real. And that is where her votes are coming from. They are coming from the people that realize that that is what they would look like up there," wrote in Stefanie.

And there are those who believe that Brandy was ousted by her own hand. "brandy's obsession to win was a bit of a turn off. THe other contestants seemed like they were there to have fun. I picked against brandy for that reason alone," said Carlos.

Brandy, Jennifer, Audrina, absolutely perfection.. if it's a popularity contest, and votes are driven by, pity, envy, or just plain bias, then stop competition.. just show everyone dancing for weeks , for our enjoyment.. this is soo hard a challenge to be taken so lightly.. her, presance on the show, was a grave mistake, ratings over, substance, i like bristol, she has a calm and poise her loud, cackling mother does not.. but this should serve as a beware to stars, if a political background contestant is booked, then real" stars. turn it down, to dance in show.. you work too hard for this.:)

I agree with all that say Bristol should NOT be in the finals. I know she tried hard, but Brandy had it all over her...Brandy should be in the finals, not Bristol. Everyone who voted for Bristol was just because of her mother. People are going to stop watching this show if this continues. I feel terrible for Brandy, she was actually the best !!

Dancing with the Stars is now based on politics. My family refuse to watch it anymore. This is totally rediculous that Palin's daughter was picked over Brandy. What era are we living in?

If ever there was anything shameful this is it , I wouldn't be surprise if Sahara Pailen and some of her republican friends didn't rig the whole darn show,Bristol is stiff and cannot dance, and I don't know why anyone is trying to make her popular, what is so great about her(shame, shame, shame). I wonder what Simon Cow would say about this, was this realy , a dancing competition,. Look at Bristol with that stupit grin she knows she dont belong on that stage she should have been eliminated the first show,. Well Bristol I guess you really feel important now.(ha ha ha).

The blogosphere's reaction actually uncovered some newsworthy developments.

ABC's web site allows people to vote 300 times. And conservative activists were circulating instructions on how to exploit this whole to "stack" the votes in Bristol's favor. (One blog actually posted links to the discussion.)

Someone on CNN's Facebook page also alleged that ABC simply gave out the wrong phone number for Brandy - presumably implying that her votes weren't counted. CNN reported this on their entertainment blog, even going so far as to get an official denial from ABC. But in the comments several viewers complained that they'd *tried* to vote for Brandy, but ABC's toll-free number wouldn't accept the call.

Combining these, maybe that's the real explanation as to what's going on. All the phone lines are already choked to capacity, so it's essentially a tie. But Bristol Palin also has a crowd of "hacker wannabes" exploiting the glitch in ABC's web site...

Most improved dancer, is, kyle, he has alot of things, a male has to learn, he is not theperfect dancer body, for a male, but his quick steps, his beautiful lifts, of his partner, and dips, are well controlled, and he is most improved, but there is a limit to how much better, he, and Bristol can get,. as for Brandi, she has every right to be positive, hopeful, that's what it's about.. she will be missed, i looked forward to her, and max, and Jennifer and Derek,. Brandi was simply, beautiful to watch, and was not stuck up, like someone said,, how childish! .. kelly Osborne, was way more advanced than Bristol, this time last year,.

bristol palin cannot hold a candle to the last 6 contestants inthe dancing contest because she looks like a bull in a china shop.

the people voted and you have your results. Why you are bringing politics into the entertainment is beyond me. get over yourself quit blaming the tea party for everything that you think is a problem. oh wait that seems to the pattern of the country blame the tea party blame Bush. Grow up.

Get real! As everyone has thought this is rigged! Bristol Palin could not dance her way out of a wet paper bag with the bottom missing. Wonder who fixed this? Bristol showed how gracious she is by not even hugging Brandy or saying anything. Guess the apple does not fall far from the tree. Her mother is the most annoying person on earth and every time I hear her voice I want to puke. Word on the street is someone rigged this pretty good. Wonder who? I will never watch this again!

The point about bristol is more about the voters and their politics than it was about her dancing.

Brandy was robbed.

Come on people it is a show.....that I doubt is fixed. I personally think that viewers and voters got sick of Brandi and her better than thou attitude. I did after the first week. She acted entitled to the win or at least to making the finals. She is spoiled and self centered and I am sure Max did not help. Should Bristol be in the finals, probably not, but it is what it is. We can only hope that Brandi has learned a thing or too from this experience, but I doubt it.

If Dancing with the Stars is an indicatiupb of how Americans voting plays a part in, we BETTER not take the 2012 Presidential Elections lightly!

I think the judges should elminate the contestants each week. It is obvious that voters are not basing their decisions on dance abilities and overall performance. I agree Bristol has improved but in no way does she deserve to still be in the contest BASED ON HER performance. I have no feelings for her one way or another but she should have been voted off weeks ago. I believe Jennifer is going to take the trophy. Yes she can be somewhat of a whiner but again the celebrities should be judged on there ability to dance, entertain and perform. I enjoy Kyle he is a breathe of fresh air, love his energy. May the BEST dancer win!!!

I'd like to add as most feel this is a joke. I don't care that Brandy can sing doesn't mean she is a dancer so there for deserved a fair shot. Fair didnt happen yet shots were taken. Every week I called to vote for Brandy I'd get bursy signal or you have the wrong number. I would then have to vote on Tuesdays online, when actually I should have been able to vote by phone and online. Brandy was robbed upfront and openly yet no one wants to talk about that. I WILL NEVER WATCH DWTS again if they choose not to address or correct the issues and problems. People feel Brandy did not care for the victim of her car crash and she does and always will. She eats, sleeps, sings, and dances the thought of that day and time and shall never forget it so why does the world or a portion of you all want to punish her for something the courts have not. Let GOD be the real decider not you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont get it... Brandy had no attitude. She was just extremely driven. But you gotta understand that the reason why people are so fed up with this (and I am one of those people) is because Brandy is a WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY better dancer than Bristol. People should vote for who they think should win based on the dancing (hence the name, Dancing With the Stars) and not on who they like the most. Even if you vote for your favorite, and they're not exactly good at dancing, dont spoil it for the people who actually deserve votes...

I have watched every season of DWTS, but this will be my last. Palin should have been the FIRST person to go. I for one think that ONLY the judges should vote because this show, just like American Idol, should NOT be a popularity contest. Let talent win, and all others go home. I was so upset last night I was positively speechless. Although Brandy was not my favorite, at least SHE could dance. Bristol is no one, and she cannot dance, and she never should have been on the show in the first place. For her to think she should win just galls me. I will make it a point next week to vote for Jennifer and hopefully so will many others so that once and for all the nondancer Bristol will be sent packing. I cannot stand to watch "winners" who cannot dance at all......and that would be Bristol. Go back to Alaska....without the trophy. The limelight has definitely gone to your head and your believe your are somebody......and worse yet, you think you can dance! Ha!

Unfortunately, Americans have a tendency to vote for the wrong person all the time (whether on purpose or not), and this is a prime example. For pete's sake -- Palin cannot even dance. She really only deserved 7s or 8s on her last performances -- the judges are partially to blame for giving her 9s. I don't even really care for Brandy or Jennifer, personally, but both of them are much better dancers, as is Kyle. Jennifer probably thinks that she is a shoe in to win now that Brandy is gone. Her chronic whining throughout the season and her sympathy plays totally turned me off. I hope that Kyle takes home the mirror ball trophy. It would be ludicrous for Palin to win, but not at all surprising, given the mentality of most of the voters. Why anyone would have her on the show and call her a "star" at all is a mystery, as her only claim to fame is getting pregnant at 17 and having the biggest airhead on the planet as a mother. What's next people -- Bristol Palin for president? I'm sure it could happen -- only in America. Go Kyle!!!!

Bristol is winning because her mommy DOES HAVE the judges on her payroll

The outcome of last night's DWTS was sad! I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Come on people, It's about dancing, that's it! If you're voting on dancing, Brandy should still be on the show. I've been watching the show off and on for years, but last night was it. I'm finished! Goodbye!

I agree, dancing with the stars are about inexperience dancers, learning to dance. That's just it, Bristol Palin is not a star.
