In honor of the start of its eighth season, I write today of ‘What Not to Wear,’ the greatest of all makeover shows and interview its passionate, articulate hosts Stacy London and Clinton Kelly. I love it for its simplicity, its seriousness, its lack of sudsy sentiment, and its evangelical regard toward the power of an A-line skirt to change a life. (It is sweet, too, in its salty way.) It’s one of the few reality shows I watch for my own pleasure.

And I say with a sort of pride, although it may have been a matter of space more than of righteousness, that the words ‘Shut. Up.’ do not appear anywhere in the piece.
