CNN's Rick Sanchez fired after calling Jon Stewart a bigot [Updated]

Say goodbye to the king of "Conventional Idiocy": CNN newscaster Rick Sanchez has been fired. The news comes one day after Sanchez appeared on Pete Dominick's Sirius radio show, where he called "The Daily Show's" Jon Stewart a "bigot" (he later amended the term to "prejudicial") and suggested that "everybody who runs CNN" was Jewish.

Today, CNN released a statement noting that “Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

CNN did not disclose whether Sanchez's comments were cause for letting him go. But the radio interview was just the latest in a history of incendiary quotes from the newscaster, who has gotten into trouble for calling Obama a "cotton-pickin' president," misquoting Rush Limbaugh, and not understanding the metric system.

If you'd like to listen to Sanchez’ radio comments (and hear him quote Mark Twain), click here.

[Updated at 5:06 p.m.: An earlier version of this story misspelled Sanchez's and Stewart's first names in one reference and has been corrected.]

What does he mean the media is "controlled by Jews?" Are there too many Blacks in the NBA? We have a free enterprise system. If you want to be part of the media, start a magazine or radio station and have people read or listen to you. Too difficult? Oh I see, I think we're getting somewhere.

I hope all those wanting to get into broadcasting study this dude...

He enjoyed MANY opportunities, and instead of showing some class... he threw his Latino status into faces of viewers (which must have embarrassed our country's Latinos) .. but worse, he was absurdly full of himself - which made him tough to watch!!!

Kids, good reporters focus on their subjects, the stories - and do not pat their own backs.. watch on YouTube his constant self-praise --- it's distracting, and off-putting.

We'll someday get another Latino - let's wish for a modest one.... like the gorgeous Mexican Sports reporter who caught our attention trying to interview the Jets (NFL) QB... see how the way she carries herself is opposite of R.S., and how likable it makes her!!!!

good call CNN.

Rick Sanchez was never a first tier reporter. He blamed this on an imaginary bias. Maybe if he had defended Don Imus' first amendment rights I'd feel bad for him, but he didn't, so I don't. And this Jewish stuff is silly. Wolf Blitzer, Savage, and Jon Stewart are all Jewish and in the media. Besides that they have nothing in common. So if there's a conspiracy like you anti-semites allege, I'd sure like to know what it is.

Guess whoever has the most money will be the next California Governor. Wonder what happened to caring about people, jobs, health, education and the so-called well-being of the residents of California? What ever happened to getting State as well as Federal Services only if you are legally in the country? Just have a few kids in California - they get all the services and the taxpayers pay for it. I never used to be so negative until I had to quit working for health reasons and then found out 99% of the doctors don't take MediCare? What planet do I have to live on to enjoy my last years free of pain and in peace. I'm a native Calfornian and USED to vote every year - now I'm ashamed of our political leaders - don't get me wrong - United States is the best country in the world and I wouldn't live anywhere else - don't even want to vacation out of the US - but something's gotta improve fast or the young adults now (another horror story) that will 'lead' the country eventually won't have anyone or any resources to lead.

Why everytime someone has a difference of opinion they are fired. Helen Thomas, Don Imus and know Rick Sanchez, they might be idiotic to some but really they speak to an audience who agrees with them. I would have more respect for John Stewert if he stood up and said ''let Sanchez speak his mind, I can take it.''

Even Bill Maher, who insults everyone, agrees that it has gone to far. I don't think I will watch the Daily show anymore because he should have said something so that people really don't believe that Jews run all aspect of the industie and that you better not say anything against them.

Talked his way right out of a job.

Does the moderator on this site have an agenda? A lot of blogs are not posted.

We do not like CNN but we did like Rick Sanchez' energy. The only guy alive on CNN.
Larry King escaped from his grave. That guy Cafferty is useless. Wolf is insane. Ronald Martin is a loud-mouth (black) bigot. TJ (?) needs speech therapy. John King and his wife Dana Bash say anything to keep their million dollar paychecks. If John King is so great why does he need his wife, Dana Bash, and that clown Pete as side-kicks? CNN has become same as SNL.

I didn't always agree with Rick but sure like him better than JON Stewart.
I do wish we could go back to reporters reporting....period.
The reason we have so many problems with news shows these days is because there are several and they are on 24 hours a day. They have to think up something to say to fill airtime !
We need a couple hours a day like it used to be. Not 24 hours a day !
Anyone who watches nothing but the news needs to get a life. Garbage in, garbage out.

Commentator123 You are such a Bigot!! I dunno maybe the network wanted a Hispanic to reach out to biggest consumers, the growing and dominant minority group in America, Ya think?

By the way America was discovered and founded by Hispanics, their descendants
still live in America. Read it and weep sucker! Saying CNN is predominately Jewish is not a bigoted statement. I work in Film and TV and yes it is mostly Jewish run. SO WHAT!! Big deal ! I don't see why this is an issue.
