'Dexter' behind-the-scenes exclusive video: The blood, the bodies, and the killing tools
In Sunday's fifth-season premiere of "Dexter," we learn in passing that Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) has killed 67 people. It's just a comment he makes as he's trying to process the tragedy that the Trinity Killer (John Lithgow) bestowed upon him in the fourth-season finale.
The Times recently visited the Hollywood set of Showtime's top-rated series and went on a behind-the-scenes tour with two of the men who get to have the most fun on set: Prop master Josh Meltzer and Dave Maguire, assistant in the prop department.
They are the guys who hold all the weapons, knives, rotting bodies, killing tools and blood. Lots and lots of blood. And they know all the backstories.
Watch the video below to see how the "Dexter" magic happens. First, Meltzer shows us around the prop "Gold Room," and how it takes more than one knife to stab someone to death on the series. Then Maguire takes us to the prop truck on the lot, where we were most excited to see, among other things, Dexter's special blood slide souvenirs.
The new season begins at 9 p.m.

deb is way too skinny. Debs Partner looks like Skeletor... he is even more skinny. The whole thing feels like a billy mays commercial... its too early for me to give up on season 5 but I hope it gets better. I feel like they are trying too hard.
All I can do is keep trying to love Dexter... and Hope that the show recovers.
