Matt Weiner admits he’d be bummed if his show didn’t get a writing Emmy nomination

The show must go on at “Mad Men,” even though the AMC drama remains on the Emmy love list.

Currently in production on its fourth season, the actors and crew are scheduled to work on episode eight Thursday and do a table read for episode nine. Executive producer Matt Weiner understands that there may be some delays.

“There will be a lot of back-slapping and hugging and picture-taking,” he said. “It’s hard to explain. It’s a big deal here. We can’t believe this happened.”

Really? Even though the show has won the Emmy for the last two years?

“No one is used to it. Nobody expects it,” he said. “We all are very proud of what we do. And we have a little cable channel and we’re thrilled that people think it’s good.”

Of all the nominations, he said, the two nods for writing mean the most to him.

“I hate to say it, but if all of this happened and the scripts were not nominated, it would bum me out,” he said. “And those scripts in particular were really hard to do and unusual storytelling and very high risk. I’m very proud of them.”
