Jaleel White celebrates his nerdy Urkel past

White Gary Coleman, the "Diff'rent Strokes" star who died earlier this month, was typical of many child actors who have bittersweet feelings about their early success. They think they are trapped, feeling that their early stardom is a disadvantage when it comes to moving on to more adult roles.

But Jaleel White, whose role as the nerdy Steve Urkel on "Family Matters" made him a star, couldn't be happier about the show and what it meant to his career.

"It's one of the greatest things that ever happened to me," he says of the show, a sitcom about a middle-class African-American family that ran for nine seasons.

White is not only celebrating the release of a new DVD box set of the first season of "Family Matters," but is excited about his new venture, a Web series on Hulu called "Fake It Til You Make It." He wrote, stars in and directs the project.

Read the whole story about Jaleel White, his past and future.
