Wildlife group targets Discovery with anti-Sarah Palin ad campaign

Palin ad A wildlife group spearheading a petition drive to persuade Discovery Communications to drop an upcoming docu-series starring Sarah Palin plans to launch a provocative ad campaign around the company’s headquarters in Silver Spring, Md.

The ads, which are scheduled to go up in a few weeks on bus shelters and throughout the Silver Spring Metro area, declare: “Discovery just redefined obscenity on TV: Sarah Palin as an Alaska wildlife show host." In the photo, a bloodied wolf dangles from a small plane.

Defenders of Wildlife, a Washington, D.C.-based group that focuses on protecting wolves and other species, argues that Palin’s record on environmentalism makes her ill-suited to host a show about Alaska’s outdoors. The program, tentatively titled “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” is scheduled to premiere later this year on Discovery’s TLC network.

A TLC spokeswoman declined to comment. Efforts to reach Palin through her spokesman and her political action committee were not successful.

The wildlife group said it plans to keep the ads up for a month as part of its effort to cancel the program. The group is coordinating a petition drive that it says has directed at least 250,000 e-mails to the company so far.

“This is the largest response we’ve ever had to any of our actions,” said Jeff Regen, vice president of online marketing and communications for the organization. “We’re not going to stop until we win.”

Dear "Incredulous",

I don't fear Sarah Palin. I don't fear those who support her. I see Palin's popularity to be built on the fear of overly enfranchised, conservative whites that practice politics at the end of an enormous middle finger. I get that you're all angry that a man of color made it to the high office, but your anger has gotten the better of you. You've become so unreasable that a half-term, half-wit Governor from a half-life state is your salvation.
You're the equivalence of the child that has yet the ability to reason but given the responsibility of decision. You are America's chosen mob and your behavior is so un-American. Has been throughout our history. You are what's wrong with this great democratic experiment. You're not to be feared, but don't think we're not trying to figure out a way to make you go away.

"Why is she always in red or black leather, am I the only one that notices?"

It's exactly what a Canadian female comic and commentator said the morning after Palin was nominated. She has the exact look of retired porn stars. Which is also the preferred makeup look of the bible belt, particularly in Texas and Oklahoma.

The more the leftist America-hating "progressive" vermin scum hate on Sarah Palin, the more she is loved by those of us who love America.

This woman is nothing more than a dressed up hick. She is unable to enunciate, lies, steals, is unethical and basically needs to open a bondage club. No accomplishments in life, she can't finish anything and obviously has poor DNA. But wait, she is the Republican gift that keeps on giving! Who needs to show anything but her speaking, to insure Democratic re-elction across this nation. As for her wildlife credentials, well it is too bad that we couldn't place her in an arena with wild predators and she gets a simple weapon - an old style Roman event. Televise it and based on the outcome, we can text to have a wolf pack rip her to shreds or she leaves as victor. I would watch that!

Liberals crack me up. "Don't run it, don't sponsor it, don't watch it."

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)

Give her a break. Liberals & conservatives alike owe Sarah Palin a debt of gratitude for keeping John McCain out of the White House.

Sane people do not fear Sarah Palin - they fear the damage and divisiveness she brings to our great country. They fear what her ignorance and lack of discipline represent.

And she's a quivering flute player.

"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated"
-Mahatma Gandhi

Having Sarah Palin host a show on 'conservation' or 'wildlife', is like having G.W. Bush host a show on 'human intelligence'; or Joseph Hazelwood, (allegedly drunk supertanker skipper), on 'reef avoidence'...or Edward J. Smith, (Titanic skipper), on slalomming ocean liners through ice-fields!
Sarah Palin may be many things, (religious sociopath, uninformed politician, pseudo diplomat, quitter, prowar monster), but she is NOT someone who has helped lower the 375Ppm cO2 back to a 'healthy-for-living-beings' level; (<350Ppm).
Like Sen. Imhofe, Ms. Palin has no concern for the billions, (currently, 6.94, going to 9 billion in my life time!), of humans who will have to endure what the Earth will be like when they arrive!
Palin's decesion to have a child with KNOWN major birthdefects, (when 96% of the parents who are faced with this type of defect have merciful abortions!), reminds me of the Star Trek episode where a planet, overrun with inhabitants, lures the Enterprise so as to cause a pandemic, because...they don't do birth control or abortion either!

Good for Defenders of Wildlife! I'm a member of this group and fully support their campaign against Palin!

This is just porn for the right.

Outside of the politcal divide, I don't see why Sarah Palin shouldn't be the host of a show on Alaska. She was born and raised there, she was the governor of the state, and her husband participates in the Iditarod. Seroiusly, they're sled race across the state, how much more rustic do you want your host to be?

I didn't know hosts of shows on Discovery channel were required to be Democrats.

I think a lot of posters here are missing the point...

The issue for the environmental group is not that it hates Palin for some vague personal reason; it is objecting to the fact that this person who is generally and correctly viewed as an opponent of wildlife -- supports aerial killing of wolves, supports drilling, doesn't believe in global warming, etc -- should have a place on a network that promotes an awareness of wildlife.

No one on the left ever said Palin was a "nobody." They (okay "we") might have said she was not very smart, or ill-suited for political office.

The leather thing is notable (relevant to this article) because leather is made from the hide of animals.

For all intents and purposes, she really is just a cracker. The pig in lipstick comment still holds true.

Sarah, Sarah. If she were a little younger then she'd be fine as an actress, a porn actress to be exact.

I find it odd people take note of how much is spent on Palin's wardrobe yet no one gives a hoot about Michelle Obama's.

Then again Michelle does have better fashion sense.

(And I voted for McCain.)

As a long time Alaskan, I can tell you, sure Sarah was born and raised in Alaska, but that doesn't mean she is true to her fellow Alaskans or represents all of us. And BTW Todd doesn't do the Iditarod (that is a sled dog race), he does the Iron dog and that is a snow machine race folks. She has only one goal in her ego overloaded head- making money....off of you and everyone she can possibly lure into her schemes and mostly off of the great state of Alaska. Very sad.

Sarah Palin's Alaska does not represent my Alaska, nor the Alaska of most of my friends and family here. She makes Alaska look bad and gives Alaska a bad name. We've (us Alaskans) seen right through her for years, why don't others take the time to take a good look too.

Wake up folks. Say no to Palin.

Dear Jeff – (and you wouldn’t happen to be from Illinois, would you?) In response to your screed I offer this:

Liberals crack me up. "Don't run it, don't sponsor it, don't watch it." Maybe it’ll be as funny as every other time I’ve watched her. Stupid people can be real funny.

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns, he wants all guns outlawed. (No, just kept out of the hands of children, psychos, narco-traffickers and people who shoot wolves from helicopters.)

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone. (No, we just want locally, humanely, organically and sustainably grown meat.)

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect. (You’re damned right there!)

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him. (Jeff, SOME people for whatever reasons, can’t take care of themselves. Shall we let them die on the streets? Go back to Dickens time? I’m proud as hell that I live in a socialist country- America.)

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down. (No, but we want people to understand what a powerful tool the media is – and how it’s controlled by corporations whose goal is to increase profits and will show ANYTHING to increase market share, no matter how detrimental to American society.)

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!) (Again, I disagree – I simply don’t want religion affecting MY life. So, hands off abortion, for instance.)

Parroting talk-radio is easy. Thinking is hard. Try the latter.

I swear some people are just stupid.. I honestly don't think she deserves a show on Alaska about it's wildlife, can't we just get some celebrity to host a show about Alaskan bears and birds, they would know far more then Palin..

Jeff-

Your obtuse generalizations make you sound like a sociopath.
