PRIME CHOICES

SUNDAY

Barry Pepper and Winona Ryder portray spouses Bill and Lois Wilson, respective co-founders of the support groups Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, in the sobering new docudrama “When Love Is Not Enough: The Lois Wilson Story.” (CBS, 9 p.m.)

MONDAY

“Backdraft’s” William Baldwin – one of the lesser Baldwins said to orbit big brother Alec of “30 Rock” fame – guest stars as Serena’s (Blake Lively) oft-mentioned but long-absent father on a new episode of “Gossip Girl.” (KTLA, 9 p.m.)

TUESDAY

Jay vs. Dave… Jay vs. Conan… Johnny vs. Joan Rivers… Jack Paar vs. NBC… Key figures and behind-the-scenes players offer candid commentary on the bruising and brutal talk-show wars in the new special “The Battle for Late Night.” (A&E, 10 p.m.)

WEDNESDAY

Mayhem, mystery – and murder – lurk in the shadows of an otherwise-bucolic Minnesota burg in the new drama “Happy Town.” Wait a minute… that doesn’t sound like a very happy town at all. Lauren German and Sam Neill star. (ABC, 10:01 p.m.)

THURSDAY

Dying is easy, comedy is hard, and a new “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation” seeks the latter in the former when Tim Conway guest stars as a veteran comic whose ex-partner expires on the eve of their big Las Vegas reunion show. (CBS, 9 p.m.)

FRIDAY

Its namesake set to retire, “Bill Moyers Journal” ends its long run with a special 90-minute episode. A moment of silence, please, as the lights go out at one of the last bastions of thoughtful and though-provoking television journalism. (KCET, 9 p.m.)

SATURDAY

Some like it cool, some like it warm… and “Some Like It Hot,” which is exactly how Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon and Marilyn Monroe serve it up in director Billy Wilder’s gender-bending 1959 romp. This one’s a real drag. (TCM, 7:15 p.m.)

DRESS FOR SUCCESS

Speaking of drag, the Tom-Hanks-Peter Scolari sitcom “Bosom Buddies” is among the shows honored at the “8th Annual TV Land Awards.” Also feted: “The Love Boat,” “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Glee.” (TV Land, 9 p.m. Sunday)

MMM… DANISH

To watch, or not to watch, the Royal Shakespeare Company’s modern-dress “Hamlet” on “Great Performances” – is that really a question? David Tennant stars as the melancholy Dane, with Sir Patrick Stewart as usurper-uncle Claudius. (KCET, 8 p.m. Wednesday)

SPACE ODDITIES

Ground control to Major Tom: The Discovery Channel pairs the debut of the science series “How the Universe Works” with the first two installments of the four-part series “Into the Universe With Stephen Hawking.” (8, 9 and 10 p.m. Sunday)
