American Idol: Last season's runner-up, Adam Lambert, mentors the contestants in this new episode (8 p.m. Fox).

NCIS: Los Angeles: A petty officer's death leads the team to a teenager in Sam's (LL Cool J) life who may have a connection to terrorist activity in this repeat (9 p.m. CBS).

Melrose Place: Ella (Katie Cassidy) tries to blackmail Amanda (Heather Locklear) after getting fired from WPK, a gambit that ends badly for one of them on the season finale (9 p.m. KTLA).

Frontline: The series examines the Obama administration, focusing on the influence of special interest groups and the role of money in policymaking (9 p.m. KCET).

Deadliest Catch: The 2009 king crab season begins with tensions running high in the season premiere (9 p.m. Discovery).

Parenthood: Adam (Peter Krause) tries to spend more time with his family but finds that even more challenging than he had feared, and Sarah's (Lauren Graham) relationship with Mr. Cyr (Jason Ritter) exceeds her expectations in this new episode (10 p.m. NBC).
