Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert re-up with Comedy Central

JonStewart-StephenColbert_Indecision2008 One television network has its late-night line-up locked up.

Comedy Central announced Tuesday morning that hosts Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert have both signed individual extensions of their contracts. Stewart will continue to host "The Daily Show” through June 2013, while Colbert will remain at the helm of “The Colbert Report” through the end of 2012. Both comedians also serve as executive producers of their programs.

The new deals mean both Stewart and Colbert will be in place for the 2012 presidential election. It remains to be seen how the two men, who fare well with younger viewers, will do when TBS launches its new pairing of Conan O’Brien and George Lopez this fall.

Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are probably the only sources of reliable news and honest commentary on air.

I had to google Conan O'Brien! Out of sight, out of mind...

What really remains to be seen is how long Colbert can be as successful and still have the show be so Stephen-centric. Stewart is the undisputed star of TDS, but the show is boosted by its ensemble cast. It's easier to see that staying fresh and "new" for the three years. Can Comedy Central keep letting Stephen be Stephen?

May they always feel fresh in what they do, and never feel obligated to any of us to continue at the expense of their hearth and health.

Otherwise, bring on the satire for another couple election cycles!

It's a testament to this country that we have these men (and women!) doing what they do, and being allowed to do so.

As for the Conan thing - it's a totally different kind of show - he was up against them before, but everyone knows Coco has his team, and Stewbert have theirs. Ratings are irrelevant in the age of TiVo and internet anyway...

Michael A. Shea: Put your powder blue satin baseball jacket away, put down those matzah balls and grow out your comb-over... In other words, thanks for the amateur analysis, but you aren't a T.V. critic or producer. Believe it or not, you're actually a little less insightful than those privileged, parasitic goofballs.

Personally I would have liked to have seen Conan follow Stewart/Colbert. True he'd have been on at midnight, but it'd be a perfect (more or less) mirror to the network broad casts... (fake) news then late night talk show. Oh well... my loyalties are to Stewart/Colbert, even though I love Conan. May the satire, critique, and truthiness go on.

I love it when Daily Show catches people lieing on FOX! Fox sucks!

Rusty's right - time-slot ratings mean much less than they did, and will soon be obsolete. All that matters is creating a show that people will watch, on demand.

I haven't had cable for years. I have an analog antenna for PBS, and I watch The Daily Show and Craig Ferguson on the internet, albiet a few hours (the next morning) after the broadcast.

It's sad how these two comedians and their fake news are probably the two best political commentators on television.

To make it short .. I'm 60 and my parents are 84 & 80. My kids are independently working. We all love Stewart & Colbert. Glad their continuing for us younger viewers :)

These guys are on TV?

Like most, I have only seen them on Ted Steven's intertubes!

"Time slot" means basically nothing in 2010.

az66: Combover? Dude, if you are referring to the big hair in the trailer on my IMDB page - that's actually just a wig! In real life, I don't even had enough hair to do a comb under.

I don't understand why everyone thinks the Daily Show is a news show. It's more like SNL with more accurate commentary and bleeped out language. The Right doesn't get it because they're empathetically challenged which short circuits their sense of humor. You die laughing listening to Stewart. You will only be amused watching Coco . . . . .

I always watch their shows because they are intelligent and perceptive hosts. While their shows are amusing, they expose the ridiculous and sometimes unseemy underbelly of today's endless spin. I think the more educated the viewer, the more popular the show.
