How I Met Your Mother: Ted (Josh Radnor) brings a date to Lily’s (Alyson Hannigan) birthday dinner in this new episode (8 p.m. CBS).

Dancing With the Stars: Host Tom Bergeron and judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba return as 11 new teams trip pair up for a new season. Among the stars: astronaut Buzz Aldrin; Pamela Anderson, Shannen Doherty and Niecy Nash; Erin Andrews; Olympic gold medal figure skater Evan Lysacek; Kate Gosselin; former TV ‘Bachelor’ Jake Pavelka; Aiden Turner (‘All My Children’) (8 p.m. ABC).

The Big Bang Theory: Leonard (Johnny Galecki) and his friends try to help Sheldon (Jim Parsons) overcome his stage fright, which could keep him from receiving a coveted award in this new episode (9:30 p.m. CBS).

Castle: Dana Delany guest stars in a two-part story (concluding next Monday) as an accomplished and insightful federal investigator who helps Castle and Beckett (Nathan Fillion, Stana Katic) track down a killer. Susan Sullivan and Molly Quinn also star in this new episode (10 p.m. ABC).

Nurse Jackie: Edie Falco is back for a second season playing a New York nurse who struggles to balance her demanding job with a family and long-hidden secrets that could cost her both (9 p.m. Showtime).

The Big Sleep: Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall star n this classic 1946 version of the Raymond Chandler mystery novel. Directed by Howard Hawks from a script co-authored by William Faulkner, it casts ‘Bogie’ as private eye Philip Marlowe, who watches over a general’s daughters (Bacall, Martha Vickers) (5 p.m. TCM). Followed at 7 by the 1941 film noir classic ‘The Maltese Falcon.’
