Animal Planet to turn Oscar winner, 'The Cove,' into a TV series
Oscar gold is coming to Animal Planet.
According to our sister blog, 24 Frames, Animal Planet is turning "The Cove" into a TV series that will possibly premiere in the fall.
The documentary about the controversial dolphin trade in Japan won the Academy Award on Sunday. It tells the story of an annual rite in Taiji, Japan, where fisherman sell dolphins into captivity or kill them for meat.
The series, tentatively called "Dolphin Warriors," picks up where the movie leaves off and also stars animal activist Ric O'Barry. It is being produced by O'Barry's son, Lincoln.

This is good news.
The Japanese need to end this inhumane, barbaric practice and should be condemned for allowing it to continue.

I've been writing about the tragedy at SeaWorld and The Cove's win, and captivity in general. Now it looks like we're going to have this new TV series that will hopefully continue the journey of wider understanding of just how harmful some our actions can be to these amazing animals. Knowledge is power - thank you Ric O'Barry and company.

This is great news! It's finally time to put a stop to the senseless enslavement and torture of so many incredible and intelligent beings.
